1. Yeah the band do like to go back on things they say quite a lot. I’d much rather have the 360 or E&I versions of the fly over the vertigo tour versions. I just wish Bono could get his timing right in the choruses. 3 shows I was at on E&I and he came in late on at least 1 chorus all 3 times. Edge saves the day each time though with some of my favourite guitar stuff.

"The version from the Elevation Tour, featured just the Edge on a Gibson Les Paul Custom playing in a higher key with less wah-wah. Bono did not play guitar on these versions, as he usually performed on the heart-shaped stage in the audience. This version is also notable for its added introduction with Bono singing new lyrics over only the Edge's arpeggiated chords. His new lyrics would then involve him reciting parts of the chorus of the song. The Edge did not sing in falsetto during the chorus as he has done on the versions from other tours. This tour also included the first extended ending of the song. The band felt that although the song was good, they hadn't gotten it exactly right. David Bowie told them, upon hearing it, that it needed to be re-recorded. Bono has also said, "It took us fifteen years to really get it right live," implying that the intended product is the version played on the Vertigo Tour."
  3. I think they’re one of they bands that whatever they’re doing at that particular time is ‘the best we’ve ever done it’. If you spoke to Bono now he’d probably say the E&I version was the best. Every album is also there best until the next one comes out and then they pick the flaws with the last album and declare the new one the best.

Yeah my point exactly. I'm sure if you had asked Bono in 2001 he would have told you the (amazing) version from the Elevation Tour was how the song was meant to be and that was the super final definitive version of it.

Same goes for 2011, I can't imagine him saying in an interview: "Look, we finally got it right in the Vertigo Tour, but now we've gone backwards and we're playing a less great arrangement just because"
  5. I'm surprised we actually got the full set list on for this show. Boston, 360 and 2015 all had songs cut.
  6. Haha, all of their live releases have had songs cut except Mexico 97 and Berlin. Red Rocks lacked many in the first VHS release and then it still had I Fall Down cut for the DVD release years later. Sydney had Tryin' cut. Slane had MW sliced off. Boston had People Get Ready, MW, Pride and One cut. Chicago VT was a frankestein so it's hard to tell what was kept and what was removed from the May 10th performance - but sure it's not a full concert anyway. Rose Bowl had inexplicably Breathe cut as well. So yeah, this Berlin release is definitely a rara avis

    Mexico isn’t also complete.
  8. It's not an "intact live registration" but at least includes all of the songs played that night.
  9. The Boston show wasn’t really full show to begin with since it was filmed over a couple of nights anyway
  10. Some of Bono's talking over the start of songs like Pride is cut (as in muted in post production, not taking out any concert time) but it's still there in the TV broadcast

Is it not to do with how much you can fit on a DVD (or VHS as was)? No problem for that with an online release
  12. I think Boston is the true Frankenstein, it's got 3 nights of footage in it... (including 6/9 which is one of the less conventionally-ordered Elevation setlists out there and includes EBTTRT and Party Girl)
