  1. They didn’t had a promotor, no sponsor, wrong cities, spring instead if summer etc? Something like that?

Outside Broadcast didn't nearly sell out all gigs in the US, don't get fooled. It was a mindblowing creative success, sure, but some of the gigs were abysmal in attendance, almost Popmart-level; speaking from the top of my head, Iowa, Alabama and Kansas were less than 60% full. Apart from the original JT tour when everybody was ready to jump on the U2 train/trend, they've always struggled with American stadiums.

I also think that over saturation of the market is to blame. For example, in the Southeastern US, they played Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, Atlanta, and Clemson! I’m not even sure if JT87 would have sold out in all these venues (stadiums). I think they can do a US stadium tour today, but not in these small to medium sized markets (Atlanta, Jacksonville, etc.)

Looking forward to the broadcast! I love this version IYWTVD.
  3. Atlanta´s not a small market at all, over the years U2 concerts there are always sold out, or nearly, I was there on the 2nd Elevation Tour and sold out on the internet in just an hour...

    Yep.

And biggest factor: the album was a dud in most of the US. Bono even acknowledged that when in Chicago (only market that really embraced the whole album & tour concept), both in 1997 and 2001.

Absolutely. They've been overplaying and saturating many US areas since 1987.

  6. Was there actually any point to those PA delay towers hahaha
  7. hahaha savage

neighbors behind the stadiums had a right to listen too!

I attended the Outside Broadcast show in Ames, Iowa and I can assure you it was at full capacity. My very first U2 show.
  9. I think that after 2015 and 2017’s tours, many of their regular markets hit saturation point with the 2018 tour. I attended the 2nd Chicago show, and they couldn’t even sell out a 2nd night in an arena!! The rear upper deck was curtained off. Several other shows had this as wel!

Unfortunately we won’t be seeing any U2 tours in the US for awhile now (due to U2 taking a few years off anyway, plus coronavirus), so maybe demand will build back up by the time they come back.
