1. For those of you old enough to remember, "Live Aid" happened 35 years ago today. A HUGE concert at Wembley & RFK Stadium in Philly.

How many of you, like me, heard U2 for the 1st time this day 35 years ago...

And some trivia about the bands time on the Wembley stage...
U2 performed a 14-minute rendition of 'Bad'. This lengthy version meant they limited their performance to two songs rather than the scheduled three. While performing 'Bad', Bono jumped off stage and danced with a girl. She was actually having difficulty as she was being crushed by the crowd behind her - Bono saw this and intervened.
  2. I love the tidbit in U2 by U2 where the band says they thought about firing Bono / Bono thought he was gonna get fired for his Bad antics before they found out it was a raging success. The book suggests they genuinely thought they blew it.

That and Edge or Adam talking about the panic looks they were throwing at each other when Bono disappeared.

    Is that you with Larry?
  4. Very cool!
  5. Had been a U2 fan for 2-3 years and seem the live when this occurred but had to tape it overnight because of the time zone difference. Watching and listening to this performance could literally send shivers down my spine, it was that magical.

I Had already seen the band 4 times live before Live Aid . Queen stole the show
  7. I reckon had U2 done Pride and New years day alongside SBS and a shortened version of Bad they would have topped Queen.
  8. I was already a fan (since 1983). Their performance was incredible, especially BAD. Amazing, unexpected improvisation by Bono. One of the best versions of Bad ever. From that day the world knew U2 for sure. Probably the most people knew them already. Saw it back many times. But yes Queen was unbeaten, Top of the world. But they were it already. Absolutely a brilliant Freddy on stage.
  9. I didn't know that the guy who helps Bono with the microphone was actually Greg Carroll. RIP.
  10. Had already been a fan of the band ever since hearing A Day Without Me in 1980 and started to collect their releases.
I saw them in the pouring rain at Milton Keynes Bowl just weeks before the Live Aid performance.
On the day of the LIVE AID event I spent all that Saturday afternoon waiting in anticipation to record the full audio of this performance off the Radio 1 broadcast and it did not disappoint. Probably the most played version of Bad I have listened to.
  11. There was a great 2 part documentary about Live Aid on the BBC over the weekend just gone inc interviews with Bono and Larry. A really interesting program with some very funny moments. Geldof was quite a character! Both docs are on iPlayer for those who can get it.
