1. I highly recommend watching The Alarm's Big Night In with Mike and Jules Peters...
a lot of great stories from Mike's many years with The Alarm, Solo, Big Country and Coloursound (Mike Peters & Billy Duffy)..... plus a few great stories of when The Alarm opened for U2 during the War tour......
  2. Been watching these as they are released. Lovely to see them after all they have been through together.

Been a long time fan of this band ever since hearing Sixty-Eight Guns being played on the Annie Nightingale and John Peel radio shows here in the UK and collected all of their output ever since. Love this band!

Been seeing them live all over Wales ever since the earliest gig I attended at a shitty venue in Cardiff named The Ritzy on 26th April 1987. I was still in secondary school at the time but hung around with much older people thankfully.

The setlist was to promote the release of the Eye Of The Hurricane album. They played the following in the setlist:
    Strength
    Knife Edge
    Deeside
    Newtown Jericho
    Blaze of Glory
    A New South Wales
    One Step Closer to Home
    Howling Wind
    Absolute Reality
    Rescue Me
    Sixty Eight Guns
    Spirit of '76
    Shelter
Where Were You Hiding When the Storm Broke
    The Stand (Prophecy)
    Declaration
    Marching On
    The Bells of Rhymney

I next saw them just months later when they played as support to U2 at Cardiff Arms Park on 25th July 1987. A shorter setlist this time due to the support slot timeframe but nevertheless superb as expected...

    Strength
    Knife Edge
    Blaze of Glory
    The Bells of Rhymney*
    Absolute Reality
    Newtown Jericho
    Spirit of '76
Where Were You Hiding When the Storm Broke
    Sixty Eight Guns

    * much to my delight upon the day of release this recording of Bells Of Rhymney ended up as an additional track on the Rain In The Summertime 12".

Later that year I got to see two more gigs back to back here in South Wales. The first being 16th November at Penyrheol Theatre in a small town named Gorseinon and the next night at Merthyr Leisure Centre in the industrial coal and steel village of Merthyr Tydfil. A few days later I saw them play at Pafiliwn in Pontrhydfendigaid here in Wales on 20th November and that brought things to a close for the Eye Of The Hurricane tour for me that year.

I did not have to wait long though as they played Wales National Ice Rink in Cardiff on 13th February 1988.

All these gigs on this tour were absolutely amazing.

Saw them a whole lot more after that. Every Welsh show pretty much plus special evenings and appearances. Mike Peters is such a nice chap. Always has time to talk with us and included us in so many soundcheck etc. A man who is not at all affected and is possibly the most humble in rock and roll.

The Alarm - Bells Of Rhymney

Remember this vividly as Mike Peters was dressed all in white. The song resonated with us here as we had just endured the fallout of the miners strike prior to the soon to be sale of the steel industry by Maggie Thatcher. Something Bono would make reference to when they brought ZOO TV to town on the Zooropa tour on 18th August 1993 ('what a great shopper...Maggie Thatcher...').

    Great insight, thanks for sharing....
I've been a huge fan of The Alarm since '84 around the same time
    I became a fan of U2.....
Live in LA and was a bit young to see the free UCLA show that was on MTV....

So a few years later when the original line-up came back to do a free show at the legendary Roxy Theatre in Hollywood to promote the "Eye of the Hurricane," I ditched school for the first them and got in..... I've seen them ever since, every tour..even Mike solo.....

Next release should be a 2nd album by Mike Peters and Billy Duffy from The Cult.... under the name "Coloursound."

Bunking off school to see The Alarm was just the best!
