1. On the BBC this weekend

  2. rave on John donne
    love that song

  3. A problem that I'm going to assign to my Probability class soon (seriously). What do you guys think? Is an iPod playlist too outdated? Do you want to give it a shot?

    Formula: (95/5) / (100/10)
Explained: the probability of it being fifth over the probability of it being a U2 song. The answer is obviously <1 ... <6.79%
The logic is quite straightforward probability of it being U2 then () the probability of it being in a particular order.
    A compound Z score.

The question about the iPod is a non-sequitar and irrelevant to the mathematics, unless of course you go on to look at algorithmic processing and probability axioms in developmental technologies. That would make for interesting lessons on probability.
  5. Thanks u2start, (probably Remy) for the birthday email
    I like the details

If by (100/10) etc. you mean 100 choose 10, then you're close, but not quite right.
The correct answer is (95 choose 9) over (100 choose 10) = 6.79% chance that the first U2 song played is the fifth song in the playlist.

If only you knew some proper Mathematics, eh?
