1. arent these the guys that did creep?

too much of a muse rip-off after that for me, im out
  2. i was gonna string this out a little longer but ill go ahead and bite right away.

this is what i'm talking about when i say its difficult to even begin a conversation, discussion, or disagreement with you. i happen to be in the same camp as Kieran thinking OK Computer is their best album, but instead of asking why, or stating what it is you even enjoy about The Bends, you say our opinion is "baffling" with no support.

Why would we engage with you? It's a stand-offish and condescending way to try to carry a discussion.

also ok computer is the best one lol
  3. There's a difference between favourite and best anyway. I was just stirring the pot.

Laying it out as "it's their best album" then following it up with "that's opinions for you" is wild. OK Computer and The Bends aren't even considered their best album; normally Kid A is. So what you mean is The Bends is your favourite album, which demonstrates your opinion.
  4. Speaking of all this, by the way, I'll keep us slightly on the rails and mention I just bought this book yesterday:

And once again you fail to acknowledge Kieran’s post calling ok computer there best in response to me saying I find it baffling that anyone would call anything other than the bends there best. And now you have also said ok computer is there best. So why would I want to carry on the discussion either. It’s baffling because I think ok computer simply isn’t as good. There isn’t as many good songs on it and whilst I know my opinion doesn’t speak for everyone in this particular case I’m surprised/baffled that more people don’t think the same way because the bends is so much better than ok computer or anything they’ve done imo.

No what I mean is I think the bends is there best album which also demonstrates my opinion. When it comes to music there is only opinions no facts so favourite and best mean the same to me, I don’t understand when someone turns round and says this is my favourite album but actually this ones better. That makes no sense, music is an opinion so if something’s your favourite you think it’s better than the others. Unless of course you allow music to be defined as ‘best’ and ‘better’ by the view of the majority which would be crazy.
  7. To use a word like "baffling" would indicate you have strong opinions about either album, when in actuality, it sounds like you have only one: "the songs are better on one"

Usually a discussion would involve supporting reasons why, maybe a mention of a personal anecdote, maybe why you disagree.

Kieran said the reason why people call anything other than The Bends their best album is because OK Computer is actually their best album, a difference of opinion. He's offered no more reasoning than you have. You've both made the same point.

But to you, his is "baffling" which I find condescending. The floor is open for conversation when a disagreement is posted (Kieran's), but instead of carrying that conversation any further

    "Baffling."
  8. Can I just add when I said that OK Computer is the "best album" I was being facetious.

It just doesn't make any sense to you, Dean. "Favourite" means someone's personal preference to something. It does not mean the same as "best", because like you usually do it's almost cemented as fact, like that should be acknowledged universally.

It's also not "baffling" that OK Computer would be better than The Bends anyway (not that I necessary think that, it's just more favourable to me, albeit slightly). That's really strange behaviour anyway, like you're trying to insinuate that OK Computer is average.

You’re absolutely right about me having a strong opinion that the bends is there best album and that is why I deliberately chose the word baffling. I then followed that up with ‘that’s opinions for you‘ which was an attempt to suggest that despite my view it is still only an opinion. If this has been overlooked I can’t do anything about that. There’s no personal anecdote either. I simply think song for song The Bends is much better than any of there other albums. There’s not a bad song on the album. I guess I think more people would agree because it doesn’t sound like a particularly difficult album to enjoy, that’s the baffling part, it sounds friendly enough for a wider audience but also good enough for people that like there less commercial music too.

Of course when I call something ‘best’ in regards to music it is only my opinion as well. It isn’t a fact but it is the same to me as saying something’s my favourite. There is no facts in music regarding favourite or best unless you bring stats into it and that is the last way I’d measure quality of music. I’m not saying ok computer is average I just think it’s good. I don’t understand how people think it’s great. It doesn’t mean it isn’t great but I can’t understand it. I can understand someone thinking JT is better than AB even though I think the opposite because they’re both quality but I don’t think ok computer is in the same league as the bends, or kid a for that matter. But again it’s only my opinion but just assume from now on when I say something I realise it isn’t a fact.

This would've been a good natural place to take the conversation

I happen to agree with you that The Bends is absolutely friendlier to a wider audience. I think that album shows them really embracing the music they wanted to make. They took a genre that was extremely popular at the time and made it sound like it hadn't sounded yet - extremely talented work of art, The Bends.

I think OK Computer is the only-slightly-better album because by that point, it wasn't about reinventing a popular genre...they were inventing a new one all on their own. Nothing that came before that record had ever sounded like it, and nearly everything that happened in alternative rock music afterwards took some sort of inspiration from it.

It took me a very long time as a Radiohead fan to switch from Bends to OKC, but it did finally happen.

    Massive fan of both albums.
