1. Listened to the Dreamforce performance for the first time in a while, and it's the best version they've done. I personally love the track, but I get what you're saying about the Dublin theme.
  2. Years are being kind to this one. Underplayed in 2015.
  3. Agree. It was amazing in Vancouver early in the set on the main stage!

  6. California is great once you get past the opening ba ba barbers etc etc

My main problem with California is not the lyrics (they're quite good actually), nor the melody (cheesy but nice), nor the harmony (it's a funny song to play on guitar with the change to B major and all), not even the cheesy Ba-ba-Barbara at the begginging (which I still totally hate, but it's not enough to ruin a whole song for me).

My main problem with California is that it detaches you out of the North side of Dublin where the rest of the album is happening, and takes you somewhere compltely different - both geographically and figuratively. And that, for an album whose main strength is the conceptual coherence between its songs, is really bad.

Wow! Never thought of it like that. Guess "New York" must be a bummer, as well as "Miami." Yeah, it doesn't fit the album concept thing, but I always liked it when someone puts a track that doesn't fit the album theme. I still listen to my "Songs Of Guilt" mix, where I chop off the Bah Bah Black Sheep Bah Bah Barbara bit, and get right to the actual song. It's just U2's worst or almost worst album to me. EBW was 40,000 times better acoustic, as Teddy Bear Tedder's Coldplay meets trendy sounds of the day production just left me baffled. If that were on the album, California would be my second fave on SOG, but it's my favorite and likely always will be. Yes, SOG is what I call it.
  8. Nope, because ATYCLB and Pop are not about Dublin and the band's/Bono's childhood memories there.
  9. I get that “California” doesn’t fit the Dublin theme but isn’t it about their childhood/teenage dreams of seeing the world? I guess it’s kind of in the same vein as “The Miracle” and how they admired The Ramones.

They played it on Jools Holland when promoting the album/tour so they obviously had plans to make it a regular in the setlist maybe it was a difficult song for Bono to sing a lot of high notes similar to Red Flag day , I'd put it as my top 3 songs on SOI alongside EBW and The Troubles.
