1. First thing i would do is give The Edge , Adams bass and Adam The Edges guitar .. i would also give Larry an Electronic Sampler effects mixing desk my theory would be doing would strip them off what sounds they are expected to produce , clean slate if you will !! ( eventually of course they all go back to own instruments ) and finally i would make Bono stay away for as long as possible ! Then come in and just write words to the music they all eventually create and arrive too , seemed to work for them during the recordings of The Passengers , Zooropa and Pop in the early days of those recordings! Flood would oversee it all with co producers Lanios & Eno ( if they aren’t available or keen Beck thankyou )

Finally i DONT want to see a ‘hard record’ ( they don’t have that in them ) that’s just going to sound like middle of the road FOG rock ... like boring much?

This is also very true !!

I'd push them towards making something with the raw energy of their earliest albums mixed with the experimental, generally less structured songwriting of their 90s work. A band of 60 year olds won't have a top 10 single and I don't think their fans don't particularly want one (at least I don't).

I'd probably rent out a small studio for a month or two to write songs, filling it with various synths, keyboards and interesting instruments as creative stimuli to try to get the band outside of their comfort zones. Something like Wilco's Loft would be ideal - it also wouldn't let the band get too comfortable in some high-end studio. I'd let them direct themselves, only stepping in when Bono/someone tries to structure things too much or make things too much like ATYCLB. After the writing period is over (I wouldn't put much emphasis on getting definitive versions of songs at first), we would sort through the demos and pick the best written songs and finish them up. Then, after a month or two of the band playing together every day and becoming a tight four-piece rock n' roll unit, we'd record the basic tracks live off the floor before supplementing the songs with overdubs. A much simpler record making process with a greater emphasis on the songwriting.

I also think Jack Antonoff would be a perfect producer for U2. Yes he mainly works on top 40 pop music, but his work on Lana Del Rey's NFR and his own stuff with Bleachers really shows off his versatility. Would be much better than Ryan Tedder

Man u know ur music , u should produce them!! Great post!
  4. Forget about the three R's...Remixes, Radio and Relevance. If you really want to chase a phantom hit then I'm leaving this project and you should bring in Nile Rogers. He still has the credibility and musicality to dancify your material without leaving you looking like complete sellouts. Failing that you're stuck with me so Bono..you are a full-time member of this band. You two (Bono and Edge) are going to bring what you think are the absolute best of your lyrics and melodies into these sessions. We are working no longer than 6 weeks. We can record them quickly and with a focussed energy..no smoothing them out. I want 6 songs recorded like this. The rest of our time and the album will come from the band jamming and improvising. I want you to play with total freedom..no concern for song structure. Verse, verse, chorus is out. I want a trip of an album where you don't quite know where you are. Think Zooropa v Fez v EP&A. I'm thinking of it being your Abbey Road.
Oh right..ok fair enough....you're calling Nile Rogers then.
    I am Damon Albarn 😉
  5. Dear band:

Great idea to make an album during the pandemic! So fresh and innovative! That will do wonders to keep you guys in the spotlight and bring some joy to your loyal fans. Also great idea to release some concerts from past tours- the talks for a contract with Nugs is going very well.

    All the Best,

    Sarcasm ☺️

I love this also , i liked what Nile did with the Rolling Stones !
  7. Nile is also a friend of Bono.
  8. Being a friend of bono’s in this situation would be like moving in with ur best friend .. all excitement and pizza and parties ... then after 6 months the realisation hits , he is in ur side of the fridge stealing ur food , ur best friends new girlfriend is always around hogging the TV remote , the place is a mess and all u wanna do is sleep but the music in his room is to loud ! You can’t wait to move out! lol

Yep - I think he has a real gift for getting the best out of artists and producing albums that consistently rank among the artist's best work. He's a U2 fan as well....
