1. I have never quite understood the logic behind thinking U2's award show / charity performances are anywhere near as good as passionate and legendary as in their usual live concert context...let alone thinking they were the best ever performance of a particular song?

Yeah I’m 100% with you there I don’t think anything can compare to proper tour shows with the odd exception of substantial length promo shows like Irving plaza, the Apollo or abbey road which is playing to there crowd and offer something a bit different. And even then I wouldn’t pick out many if any best song performances from them. Tv show performances always come across quite flat, a lot of them don’t even sound live, they don’t have that same sound you get at there big shows.

That Mofo from the MTV awards certainly is on par with the Popmart versions. Until The End Of The World from Hall of fame with Bono going into the audience is also very interesting, just like that Brit Awards version. And many more other great performances, I don't think they're necessarily inferior to regular live versions.
  5. One at the Brit awards was so good with the Craig David snippet.
  6. Streets from Cannes anybody?
  7. probably the worst performance of One in the Zoo TV era, not only because of the violin.

btw, what about that song they did at a charity event called Live Aid?
  8. "New Years Day" Mexico City 1997, "Bad" Rotterdam 1990, "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" Dublin 1993, "Please" MTV Awards 1997, just to name a few....

Those performances of Bad and Stay are regarded as all time greats for each song around these parts.
