I’ll always applaud an attempt at something interesting (even if the execution is mediocre over just another phone it in performance).
It was outstanding on the elevation tour, that’s what you call a crowd getting into it. Opening TJT anniversary tours as well it got a great reaction, it did sound a bit tired on the vertigo and 360 tours. It would have benefited from a break then. Being at one of the few shows it was dropped in that time I didn’t miss it on the night but it’s not one of my favourite u2 songs anyway.
  2. Outstanding in 2001 is generous. Bono dragged it out an awful lot. In fairness it’s like Pride, there’s not really a lot you can do with the song other than play it at a good tempo and with gusto. It didn’t happen often enough post 80’s. I always remember the quiet intro versions as the best of the lot.
  3. That is the undisputable truth and that's why 86-87 versions were the best ever.

It’s not generous if you watch the performances and see both the crowd and band getting into it. In fact elevation tour versions are probably my favourite performances of the song but I’ve never been big on 80’s u2 live compared to later years, maybe I’ll need to check out more UF tour versions as Bono’s voice was on top form then.

I didn't remember SBS actually missed just these two 360 gigs (Helsinki 2 and Brussels 2)... It's so refreshing to hear Crazy Tonight going straight into Pride.

  6. Ha ha whatever floats your boat,Bono is the only one that should sing it.

Brussels 2 is where I saw them and even though Pride wasn’t exactly a rarity on the tour it was in and out the Setlist more. It’s probably the most I’ve enjoyed the song live just because of the surprise factor. It’s something I wish they’d do more rotate the hits, keep the more obscure stuff as staples on the tour. They played New Year’s Day instead of I will follow that night as well.
  8. I think the ie SBS version worked because it fits the music between Song for someone & Raised by wolves. That doesn't mean the proper rock n roll version isn't the best; but it was a choice that made sense at the specific spot of the setlist. I think the ie version 'gave room' for Raised by wolves to take off. Maybe, they could have played Song for someone -> Raised by wolves and then the proper rock n roll SBS when the stage is already set and the mood has shifted towards the heavy subject material of politics. And, Until the end of the world imo was fantastic and ended the first set in a great, powerful way.
  9. well not 'politics', but The Troubles.
  10. When do the special four selected tracks from each show come out? I would really love to download them!
  11. They’re released in the morning on the day of broadcast, so the next one will be available on the 10th.

I thought the Mexico one came early but I’ve checked U2songs and they have it down as coming out the same day it streamed. Maybe with that actually being the next day for me it just felt early.
