1. It's fairly clear the U2 messaging for the last couple of years has been to develop others and not the band themselves. This latest video is just a reminder of that.

I love how passionate they are about these music projects, making it easier for people to be able to have access to instruments amongst other things. It really shows their passion and also that they haven’t forgot how they started out and that it wasn’t likely easy to begin with. Giving people a helping hand is probably very rewarding, I couldn’t imagine how good I’d feel walking into a room of musicians all funded by something I was backing both financially and through promoting it.

Right, there are many different videos of the song on Youtube. If you combine them all there's easily over 600K. I'm not saying that this song is/will be a hit, but it's not as dire as it seems.

What do people expect? U2 are old... they haven't had a relevant HIT since 2005. Their last song to chart in the US top 40 was GOYB, and that dropped like a hot potato immediately after it's debut. Ever since NLOTH, U2 are what the Rolling Stones were in the 90's / 00's. New material comes and goes with minimal fanfare, but the stadiums/arenas remain full. It's just the way it goes. U2 could make a song as good or better than Streets, WOWY or BD today, and it would go completely unnoticed.

If only U2 would realize this.

I think the band do realise it. I reckon they just want to write songs that they can take some enjoyment out of performing and sharing that enjoyment with the fans. I bet U2 perform this at the Oscar’s and for a lot of us it will be the highlight of the night and they’ll probably get a great reception. That’s what the band are after not hit singles which inevitably won’t come anymore. They’ll still be looking for #1 albums though, that’s achievable.
  5. You have to give them credit. They’re doing what they want. Gone are the days when they needed a hit to keep the ride / career going.

  6. For sure. It still strikes me as a simple song that will fit the narrative of a kids’ movie well, but that doesn’t mean that in a context like this the song can’t have added depth. Beautiful video.

Also, was just fooling around playing this song on guitar/piano and I love the chord progressions.

Exactly, I agree with you 100%. Hit songs are (almost always) created by younger acts with younger fanbases. I'm thankful that U2 still gives us new music.

  8. New mix of “Your Song Saved My Life” went out for promotion today. Extra 20s includes an extra verse. Also told that Beyoncé’s song she’s promoting for an Oscar went out to promo today as well.
  9. I think this is just as good...

  10. So I haven’t listened to this song much so when it came on radio, the intro especially the piano part sounded like a Coldplay song until I heard Bono sing. And it didn’t get past the first verse until someone changed the radio station lol.
