It's fairly clear the U2 messaging for the last couple of years has been to develop others and not the band themselves. This latest video is just a reminder of that.

243K on the lyric video which was posted a couple of days after the publicity for the song started, an additional 259K views on the audio track posted by u2 on YouTube which was made available the first day of publicity.

Right, there are many different videos of the song on Youtube. If you combine them all there's easily over 600K. I'm not saying that this song is/will be a hit, but it's not as dire as it seems.
What do people expect? U2 are old... they haven't had a relevant HIT since 2005. Their last song to chart in the US top 40 was GOYB, and that dropped like a hot potato immediately after it's debut. Ever since NLOTH, U2 are what the Rolling Stones were in the 90's / 00's. New material comes and goes with minimal fanfare, but the stadiums/arenas remain full. It's just the way it goes. U2 could make a song as good or better than Streets, WOWY or BD today, and it would go completely unnoticed.
If only U2 would realize this.

As I kept saying it’s a song about much more than a cartoon character. Beautiful stuff.
