I love the sound on Pop but I agree with you that 90s trilogy was the peak of Bono's lyricism. I would go further and say that Pop itself represents his best lyrical work...even the Playboy Mansion with its dated cultural references still has such a brilliant contrast between the "pool" at the party and the waters of baptism, for instance. Bono at his metaphorical best finding the sacred in the midst of the secular (or, as he puts it on Mofo: "looking for the baby Jesus under the trash.")
  3. So 25 years of Pop and still no boxset. Alright for me this time I wasn’t expecting anything but good excuse to give the album some extra love today and this upcoming weekend in general in fact with some great live performances to go with and alternate versions of songs.
  4. I reckon Mofo should have been the first single. It would’ve done well and for the album
  5. Yep, Pop was the first time they chose the wrong lead single. A clear precursor of NLOTH, SOI and SOE.
  6. Gone, Do you feel loved, Discotheque, Staring at the Sun ....... those 4 songs are enough to appreciate POP album.
  7. If you don't appreciate the POP album, please show yourself the door.

Such a shame they have yet to honour this masterpiece
  9. Do you think Mofo would have been the best choice? I dunno. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the song. I just think it “meanders” too much to be a good radio hit/single - even for 1997.

    I’d have gone with Gone.
  10. I'm assuming they haven't shared the anniversary on social media or their website yet.
