1. I don't think anyone forced U2 to tour JT17. I think they mutually agreed with Live Nation. They probably had plenty of balls up in the air and decided to make the choice sometime during 2016 dependent upon how recording was going. The whole thing was out of character for U2 especially being so close to the EI tour.
  2. Maybe but it seems odd that only a few months back Bono would say ‘It’s nice to work without a purpose…it’s not like somebody is coming up and saying we have to have a U2 album or we have to have a U2 tour’.
That seems to me like a suggestion they were told when they had to tour in recent years.
  3. The question is, was SOE delayed to make way for the JT17 tour, or was JT17 scheduled because SOE was delayed?

My guess is that some corporate LN guy made a presentation about with 2017 being the anniversary of JT, they could make more money touring stadiums and playing JT. It was probably too good of a deal to pass up, and it was obviously very successful for them. It allowed them to fill stadiums in places like Indianapolis, Buffalo, Louisville, Kansas City etc, where honestly they would’ve struggled to fill arenas in those cities with Innocence and Experience.

So they pushed SOE back, and then the money they made in 2018 was icing on the cake.

Nope, that is just an artist being against the world.

When was recording of SOE complete?
  6. I think it’s an artist saying they had contractual obligations in the past and they don’t at the moment.

well a new tour i would definitely go to

new music? as long as it's not dull acceptable bland corporate shite as i'd rather they split up

a full-blown ab tour? only if is it's done tastefully and not a cringe-worthy re-hash of the original

definitely don't want a stage show as bad as the jt tour re-hash - one fucking big screen and that's all! it was like going to the movies not a concert

WOW! I really hope U2 is feverishly working right now to meet all of your demands for their next tour, album, or project. If they can't they just may say fuck it, we can't please RealEdge so we are going to pack it it in and retire...

    How about this?

If you don't like U2s new music don't purchase it.

If you don't like their next tour, don't go.

    Easy enough.

  8. U2W1- i forget, did this officially get delayed from being signed off?

They decided to push back Songs of Experience in August 2016. Somewhere around the middle of the month. Up until that time they were working with an October 31, 2016 release date, had booked promo appearances, and even had given Kygo the go ahead to start playing the remix. They left the decision to the last minute possible, as the album would have to be turned in at the start of September to have physical copies ready in stores for October 31. An arena tour was planned and dates had been uploaded to Live Nation databases.

Earlier in August I had communication with several people that suggested the album was coming, and that a tour was happening. And there was a nice little list of promo gigs that I was aware of including Bono appearing with Kygo in LA, the iHeart and Salesforce shows, an appearance on Jools Holland, and a surprise show planned to mark the 45th anniversary of Project Arts / U2s 40th birthday in Dublin. Some (but not all) of these performances were cancelled.

The Joshua Tree idea came together in November of that year from what I know and was teased in December. Steve Lillywhite was brought in at the end of November to work on the new mix of RHMt.
  11. October 2017 was when they finished it. In September they were still making changes and settling on songs. “You’re the Best Thing” underwent major changes the week before it was released.
