They decided to push back Songs of Experience in August 2016. Somewhere around the middle of the month. Up until that time they were working with an October 31, 2016 release date, had booked promo appearances, and even had given Kygo the go ahead to start playing the remix. They left the decision to the last minute possible, as the album would have to be turned in at the start of September to have physical copies ready in stores for October 31. An arena tour was planned and dates had been uploaded to Live Nation databases.

Earlier in August I had communication with several people that suggested the album was coming, and that a tour was happening. And there was a nice little list of promo gigs that I was aware of including Bono appearing with Kygo in LA, the iHeart and Salesforce shows, an appearance on Jools Holland, and a surprise show planned to mark the 45th anniversary of Project Arts / U2s 40th birthday in Dublin. Some (but not all) of these performances were cancelled.

The Joshua Tree idea came together in November of that year from what I know and was teased in December. Steve Lillywhite was brought in at the end of November to work on the new mix of RHMt.
Oh. And the SOE tour was initially pushed back because they knew it would be a struggle to finish album. At the end of July 2016 they were looking at shifting it from an October start to an April 2017 start instead, and had worked out a new itinerary for an arena tour. So they looked at pushing the tour back and then a few weeks later decided to push it back further.

Media was notified the album was not coming in 2016 on August 18, 2016. They were asked to pull prepared stories about the album release at that time.

  2. it s time to stop, they getting old.
  3. Well you just stop following them then and the rest of us can carry on enjoying their new material and future tours.
  4. At no time have I thought that they can be withdrawn, but of course there are many opinions.
In this 2022 there are many bands with scheduled concerts which cannot be carried out in their entirety, but I prefer some concerts to not having any, much less due to artist withdrawals. And new compositions I also want, but here's this live music...
  5. Enough with the nostalgia already. Another bloody anniversary tour? No thanks.
  6. Ummm are there concerts or tours only of new songs? I believe that music has the power to transport you to another time, apart from more sensations, the new too. But if someone doesn't want that, not going to nostalgic concerts or not listening to old songs would be enough. I don't know how long songs start to get old, hours these days?
  7. As with the people who don’t want to see the band carry on in general if you aren’t on board with an anniversary tour and they decide to do one just don’t go. The amount of performances of AB songs has been so over exaggerated as well it’s unbelievable.
  8. damn it's been 4 years since I've seen the group, I hope they're still on tour.
to my luck I don't live in Europe or in NA
  9. Where do you live Domino?
  10. Maybe I’m weird, but I personally am very excited for another album/tour cycle. I feel that Covid has changed the international touring industry forever, and U2 will have to change the way they do things a little bit.

As it is right now, we’re kind of on a similar timeline between zoo and pop.

Nov- Dec 1993 & Nov-Dec 2019- tour of Australia and Asia
    1994 & 2020- Nothing
1995 & 2021- a few side projects and soundtrack work
    1996 & 2022- Nothing
    1997 & 2023- Album and Tour (hopefully)

    Yes, of course.

The band can play as many AB songs as they wish in a new fresh tour that isn’t one dedicated to marking an anniversary of the album itself. I’m simply expressing a preference for something new that is not beholden to observing the anniversary of the release of an old piece of work. I’d prefer them to avoid the creative bankruptcy of living of past glories. They don’t have long left, so I’d prefer them to use the time they have to live in the here and now and not in the past.
