1. I just think it sounds better in that arrangement than the release, but fair

  2. Saw it in Mexico when they were still doing it full band, and appreciated it much more even if it was rough…
  3. 2018 pre-Copenhagen was pretty boring
  4. I actually cannot believe U2 went ahead with that pre-Copenhagen version of the show. They're usually such perfectionists, I was surprised by some of the decisions they made. For me, "Acrobat" really elevated what was a pretty mediocre setlist. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the 1 show that I saw in 2018 (Chicago Night 2), but it's definitely towards the bottom of the U2 shows I've seen. I really hate the broken down version of SBS they did. That song needs to be balls to the walls!

As far as I'm concerned, that tour didn't really become great until the last handful of shows. It was missing too many of those BIG U2 MOMENTS, like Streets, Bad, 40, etc.
  5. Probably the 2018 shows did prove that having a theme was a bit limiting to making the Setlist more exciting. The first idea was obviously to tell both the innocence and experience stories and it wasn’t until they came up with entirely new themes that things got exciting firstly with the idea of playing songs linked to different cities and then the Berlin suite. I think Bono’s voice going was probably the best thing that could have happened except the unfortunate fans that were their that night. I actually still enjoyed listening to the earlier shows on the tour but there’s no doubt a new theme brought new excitement and some better Setlist choices.
  6. I remember 'Dirty Day' rehearsal leaked... I almost passed out that night, I couldn't believe it.
I remember that I lived that tour being on the other side of the world, I was in school, using wi-fi, watching every live show of every concert on that tour, I lived that tour virtually but it leaves me with nice memories
  7. Following the rehearsal news on the European leg was like living a dream to be quite honest. Unforgettable fire, stay and wild horses had me super excited about the London shows I was about to see and then when I heard about zoo station and the fly and then dirty day I just couldn’t believe it. Landlady was mentioned and rehearsed I’m sure around the same time as unforgettable fire and I would have loved to hear that but the Berlin suite was like my wishes coming true, I still can’t quite believe the way that panned out just in time for the London shows.

The way they integrated the visuals with their fathers, the repeating bass under Bono speaking to remembering talks with his Dad was genius. For anyone who rails that Bono talks too much - maybe, but not here.
  9. In 2018 I heard story about a fan that went to Copenhagen 1 and found it to be so boring they skipped Copenhagen 2.

    Oh wait, that was me….

Was crushed as I saw the set list posted real-time. Live and learn.

U2W1: wondering if back in 2018 leg 2 if you had heard rumblings about whether the original hope was to START leg 2 with the new songs and it was "oh crap, we ran out of time to implement the new songs for leg2, so lets stick with the original IE set and eventually we'll work them in"
or was there no plan to START leg2 with them, and the plan was always to work them in eventually (making it harder on themselves to rehearse them DURING the leg, instead of easier option of getting them all good to go a few days BEFORE leg2 started)

I know Willie commented on this in his diaries, but his time line never really made sense to me. (the idea that only 2 shows into the leg, they started to re-think the entire theme all of a sudden just because a single show had to be re-scheduled)
Is it your understanding that this cancel show was the sole reason they thought to change the theme/songs? (it was never thought of a few days prior when the Leg was starting?).
And was it hugely due to the fact that the rescheuled show was BERLIN (and light bulb went off..."wait... Berlin.....we could do a whole theme around this!") as opposed to say the re-scheduled show was a different city- do you think the theme change never would have happened?
  11. I think there can be no doubt the introduction of zoo station and the fly as regulars which became part of the Berlin suite was all to do with them going back to Berlin. I think the initial idea about changing the set was all about the cities thing. Stay, landlady, wild horses and TUF were the only ones in the running at first and then it was zoo station when they were going to Hamburg but I don’t think zoo station would have hung around if they weren’t going back to Berlin and I don’t think the fly and certainly not dirty day would have been included if it wasn’t for Berlin being the tour finale.

the city's thing is another thing i dont quite get. I've also heard what you say about Stay, landlady, Wild horses, TUF - but what's the connection between those 4 songs and cities?
