1. I read a lot Flannery O'Connor's stories this summer, one of the American writers that Bono has said influenced his lyric writing during The Joshua Tree. Specifically her novel Wise Blood he claimed inspired his character Shadow Man for Exit...after reading it this summer I can totally see the connection. Makes the live performance even creepier and more powerful. Definitely my favorite song from this tour.

Anybody else ever read any O'Connor stuff?
  2. i just listened Exit in the studio version with some really good headphones, and i think that i heard the classic Morrison’s Gloria snippet by Bono on a very low voice volume. Is that real or is it just my imagination that made me thought it was real?

Interesting. Can you provide a time stamp for it? And which version were you listening to? The MFSL pressing of TJT allows to hear some extra details inaudible in the original version, and the 2007 remaster too.

I've just listened to it, too, on very good headphones. Good catch. I also think it is there, very faint and buried in the mix. It's there where you expect it to be when you think of the live versions. But still, this could be our mind playing tricks on us.
  5. Listened to it again. It could also be an instrument we hear, playing the same first two/three notes as in Gloria. It is really hard to tell, because the moment it starts, there are even more layers of guitar sounds than before - on purpose, to bury that "Gloria"?
The basic track, including the vocals, sounds like a live-in-the-studio performance to me, maybe the vocal track initially included some improvisation by Bono? We'll never know until we get access to the multitracks.
  6. Which point in the song is that? could extract the vocal and boost/EQ it if we really want to find out?
  7. I think it starts from 3.09 or 3.20 mins
  8. I'll check it via stem separation and if it's there I'll upload it

  9. Just checked it via 2 AI-based stem separation apps I use and while I can hear the suggestion of Gloria around those points when the full song is on, it comes from the guitar layers if you isolate it.

Fist screenshot is around the 3:23 point, and you can see there's no vocals (recognized) there, and they weren't audible. Second sceen is a part where Bono audibly sings earlier on. So either it is vocal but so deeply buried that the app sees it as guitar, or it just is Edge's notes that create the suggestion.

Had that with Streets recently as well, where I thought Bono was singing a 2nd (lower)harmony with himself in the burning down love bits.

  10. This is an earlier part, posting images a bit of hassle

I did a 3D Audio edit that's louder last year, maybe it's clearer to hear in this:

  12. This should rotate with Bullet on all future tours. Maybe one Exit per 3 Bullets.
