1. We have a new You Too poll, you can vote for this new poll on the frontpage and discuss it in this thread.

The question of this new You Too is:

You Too: U2 is working on two albums, one of older material reinvented and one of new material. Which projects excites you most?
    - Older material reinvented
    - New material
    - Neither excites me
    - Both excite me just as much

Please vote on the frontpage of the website, in this topic you can tell us why you voted for your answer.
  2. New material. Although my interest in the acoustic album has increased slightly now that they're doing full band versions of some songs.
  3. Had there been a suggestion the full band wouldn’t be participating?
  4. Not so much that they wouldn’t be participating but the original thought was it was only acoustic full band reworkings but some of the reworkings aren’t acoustic it turns out. Anyway I’am looking forward to the reworks but this is the easiest question I’ve ever answered on here, brand new material is the most exciting of course.
  5. Yes, new stuff more exciting, but the prospect of some stripped down reworkings is very intriguing, as Adam mentioned; Johnny Cash American Recordings or Leonard Cohen style tracks sounds appealing to me. It would be great to hear them acting their age so to speak. I’d love something like the work they did with Donal Lunny or the spare version of Little Things as opposed to strings soaked or schmaltzy stuff like their Oscar contender. I suspect one project’s approach will inform the other, you never know though.
  6. Yeh I probably worded it poorly. I meant full electric versions of the songs.
  7. Always new stuff 😀

    ↑ +1

I had close to zero interest in the "rearranged album" based on the previous comments and assumptions, but now my interest is piqued... But of course it doesn't excite me nearly as much as a new album.
  9. By far new material.

New versions of old songs will be a fun diversion, I suppose, but if that was all they were up to I'd be pretty disappointed.
  10. Looking forward to a new album! I view the acoustic album of old songs as a COVID side project.
  11. New material just a little bit more over a remakes album. I guess it's so close I'll give a microscopic mathematical breakdown:
    New Album: 199,344,555,999,888,300,122,842,642,444,633.25
    Remakes Album: -344,199,100,100,100,200,555.33

Ok, maybe not as close as I thought. At least they are not doing a covers album of others songs, but still, this is a waste of time. I'll buy it to support the band, but just can't be excited about it at all. As I've said over the years, I want a new U2 album produced by themselves away from hacks trying to get them to use Auto Tune, and if an outside producer, somebody bold enough to convince them that hits are for younger artists. When the ill fated "Boots" hit # 37 on the USA charts in 2009, the band were all pushing 50, and in the years since then, very few, if any self-written original songs and recordings by anyone over 45 has hit the USA charts that high since. Now they are all over 60 and need to focus on just making good music.

I find it hard to believe that they can't self-produce, but they do seem to hint at a total lack of confidence in their ability to produce with their total reliance on producers in the last few years, and you could argue, their entire career. If so, the worn out team of Eno, Lanois, and Lillywhite would be much more welcome than the trend following hacks like Andy "Auto Tune" BAR VERY VERY LOW, or Ryan "Teddy Bear" Tedder. This is probably just a remix of some older probably better written posts of mine over the years.

That's the key. I can't tell you how much I wish this happened.
