1. There is a very large swath of people who only associate U2 with the SOI “scandal”. People who would otherwise just think “yeah they’re an old band that had some good songs”. People have held onto that shit. Between SOI scandal and the misconception that U2 are tax dodgers, the public’s opinion of them is pretty tainted.

Anyone who denies the negative impact it has had on their overall aesthetic is in denial themselves.

100% people actually despise U2 for it. I can only say my experience of people ive spoke to but I cant name 1 person who likes U2 wether it be because of that because of the political shit or the tax thing. Theyd say yeah they've a few good songs blah blah. Like they wnt even give them a chance. Its like the music plays second fiddle sometimes
  3. LOL. first world problems.

Rattle and Hum, Pop/mart, Spiderman musical were all bigger fiascos. It just feels worse because its fresh/er on the timeline and the band is ageing. Dont equate Bono hate with the rest of the band.
  4. I really truly believe U2 won’t get the recognition they deserve until Bono passes away. It’ll be annoying but a lot of the haters will change and say things like “he could be annoying but he was at least trying to do good in the world” type stuff and a lot of people will actually dive into their music.

Rattle and Hum- a film that underperformed, and an album that still had hits and sold a shitload of copies = not a fiasco

Pop/Mart- Album that still sold well but wasn’t a best seller. Tour had a handful of poor performances during the first few weeks. Some of the shows sold poorly, and should have been in arenas instead (which they would have easily filled). So while it wasn’t a great time for them, the tour made a lot of money, eventually the shows got really good, and was hardly a fiasco. Still probably their low point up until 2014. Still they weren’t widely hated for this. The people who were uninterested simply tuned them out.

Spider-Man Musical- this was a disaster that never should have happened. But nobody remembers it now. Nobody cares that it happened.

But the SOI scandal… that stayed with people. I agree that it’s stupid and I never understood why people cared. But I still hear people bitch about it. People hate U2 because of it, and a lot of people do. People are mindless sheep… everyone jumped on that story and the rest followed.
  6. Best quote from the article "each song sounds like elevator music to hell" 🤣🤣 yeah the "fiasco and scandal" of Applegate didn't ruin their careers by any means. Like it or not, the stunt gave them a lot of attention..and they had a nice run of sold-out shows in 2015. If someone still can't sleep at night because of the SoI release, please get therapy LOL
  7. I mean, Amber Heard and Russia are getting a lot of attention right now.

I agree that people greatly overreacted to this. But the Applegate scandal basically turned every casual fan into a hater.
  8. The best Bono can do is accept that most people hate him for nothing and laugh about it.
  9. in the same way it's very different from the other failures that U2 had, they literally got into your cell phone. I understand the hate in teir moment, but the fact that people continue to hate the group specifically for THIS? it is exaggerated
  10. He's just trolling for other U2 haters with his fake news and conspiracy theories . Seriously, if he hates the album that much, why hasn't he deleted it from his library? It's not that hard; millions of other disapproving users have done it. U2 and apple are not sneakily reloading it onto his phone time and time again and it's not spyware! It's a free music file. This article does nothing but show his prejudice and incompetency while stoking fears of "big brother" controlling technology. The thing happened in 2014; move on for goodness sake!
  11. People actually say “I can’t delete it from my device!! EVERYTIME I turn on my car it starts playing U2!! EVERYTIME I buy a new phone it’s back on there!”
  12. Ironic thing for me is I had an Android phone since well before SOI came out. So, while everyone I knew with an iPhone was trying to get rid of this automatic free album. I had to torrent the album to get it as soon as i could (yes I bought it later anyway.)
