I was high up in the clouds bass at some points was heavy but came out ok
  2. If you're looking for some fantastic sounding mics that can be plugged into your iPhone, i'd suggest using the Sennheiser AMBEO headset. They originally were 300 but now only sell for 50 on Amazon. My friend recorded 3 Nick Mason shows with them and the quality is amazing. Plus, they look like normal ear phones which makes it less suspicious for security. Here's one of my friend's recordings.

That is a very interesting setup, thanks for sharing it I wonder about the freq range they offer and especially if they can handle really high SPLs, they seem to be a bit more conference/interview oriented and not concert oriented to me.

Also, being binaurals and with your head acting effectively as a hard stereo separation wall it means that the slightest head movement will be heavily transferred into the recording and the sound will oscillate heavily. Definitely not for lively people like me

What my friend did for his first recording was clip the mic to his backpack and have them next to the guardrail, therefore no head movement issues! I can ask him for a photo of his setup and how he pulled it off.

I've used the rail plenty of times whenever I was first row, but it's far from being an ideal location sound-wise.
  7. Yeah, if you're doing rail front row, you're apt to get a ton of stage noise and miss the pa stacks. Theater shows will usually have small fill speakers at stage lip but not the arena or stadium shows that U2 does.

Of course, running a pair of wireless receivers from the front row rail isn't a bad alternative.
  8. I'm going to a show (Darren Hayes at Sidney Myer Music Bowl) with Assistive Hearing, how should I tape this?
  9. Cable goes from receiver to recorder.

    Don't overload the recorder input.

Have good isolating headphones so you can monitor during the show.

The cord is the antenna so adjust to get the best signal.

    And practice.
  10. I already have a Audio Technica Lav Microphone, what are people's thoughts on a Tascam Dr-10L as a recorder?
  11. It'll be fine if you like mono recordings.

    I personally do not.
