I watch the whole concert on tv, and when it was U2's turn, I couldn't believe it, no tribute to Queen, u2 playing their own song, Bono with fly glasses (I think it was his first live appearance on tv since they released Achtung baby), a brutal song where he fucks with a camera. Everyone was shocked. Nobody understood anything, u2 got the effect they intended: chaos, but we loved it. next day at university we weren't talking about Guns & Roses or George Michael, we were talking about the new U2.
This is awesome - I never knew this video existed! I was at that concert in Sacramento. The show was April 17th and looks like the Freddie Mercury concert was on the 20th - I had no idea they used the Sacramento UTEOTW clip for this. Cool. Thanks for posting this!

They may have split, but the website continues to report on their solo work and appearances, which generates quite a few stories as they’ve been quite busy. If U2 were out there doing promo appearances, and releasing singles I’d expect something would be covered on U2.com.

You sound like one of the moderators as you are the only one I've heard defending that site, you'd expect during a quiet period for the band the website would be busy putting up some exclusive audio and video footage and keep the subscribers interested and justifying their annual fee to be a member .

I’m not defending the site for any reason other than the fact I think this is a bit of a bad comparison. I’m as capable of being critical of the site as anyone. Right now I’m trying to get them to fulfill an order a I’ve been charged for which they’ve only partially filled. They can be a nightmare to deal with.

But I think it’s unfair to call them out for “less posts than a dead band” when that band isn’t exactly dead, and are putting on lots of solo shows and releasing new solo music. They do enough crap to give them grief about. They do a pretty good job covering the solo stuff, and if anyone in U2 was doing something there would be far more posts.

As for subscribers? Tickets are going on sale for a tour. They’ll have all kinds of subscribers next year no matter how bad they mess it up this year. Especially if tickets are harder to come by.

Well, there are ups and downs with all artists. U2 has a terrible website, and seemingly no real connection to the fans. R.E.M. has a better website? They also have brickwalled remasters that sound way too loud and distorted. U2 may not have the greatest remasters, and may ignore albums like Rattle And Hum(no cd remaster, really?), but I'm generally happy as a U2 fan. They could have made lots more money off the diehards like us, but chose not too. They are too overly concerned with what is released and why, etc.
R.E.M. broke up in what I feel was a selfish move. They could have done a final tour. I had already seen them in 1989, and in 1995, but they did not even tour for 2 of their biggest albums. They probably should get back together anyway and tour as an apology lol. They could call it the "Shiny Happy People" tour and embrace a great but goofy song that they allowed media/fans/etc to destroy. "Stand" is equally as silly a song, but anyways, glad to have U2 around at least.

I also subscribed to R.E.M.’s fan club. Generally found the gifts to be a disappointment compared to what we were getting from U2 at the time ( 2-3 tracks vs entire album length releases). Also had difficulties with not getting newsletters. And the membership got me no where when it came to tickets. My nosebleeds at MSG were disappointing. But I did get in the door. And I will be honest, I subscribed in hopes to get a better ticket.

Really happy I did get to see that last tour. I would have been cranky had I not known it was the end and had missed it. Saw a great show. Johnny Marr popped up on guitar too.
  6. I agree with you regarding the fanclub gifts, the U2 ones are usually great and value for money.

Some major acts have chosen to stop paid memberships: McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen (regarding Springsteen I don't know if there has ever been a paid membership; but on springsteen.net there is a lot of content and you can buy live music there). McCartney's team is very active, too, and there is a lot of content, even new content every few days, if he is on tour or not. They keep in touch.

Others offer you a welcome gift, but no annual subscriber's gift, such as The Who and Sting, but both offering exclusive content for paying members and presale ticket access and generally keep in touch a lot.

With a history as long as U2's, there should be enough content available to post something on their homepage and via mailing list every few days.
We have the benefit of the presale access (if they tour arenas, for stadiums it is not really needed) and the great annual subscriber's gifts. Everything else is a bit meh (and I wonder why "they" -band/management- don't seem to care about that), and on top of it, U2.com/Universal is always late when it comes to announcing something. They are often 2-3 days behind the fansites and general media. I can rarely think of any news that came first from U2.com
  7. 8 days have passed since we last moaned about AB30live 🤣
  8. I’m so mad! I’m moaning and groaning over this! Argh!!
  9. These fan club live shows are literally the ONLY thing I care about from the band at this point. No desire for any studio material whether new or old demos or other stuff like that. Sadly, my only interest in the band currently is their live material. They have released 1 song since Atomic Bomb that I think is a top tier song and really have a desire to hear. There are others that are ok and I am ok with hearing (live versions only) so needless to say, this delay is killing me as it is the only thing I have been looking forward to since the last live release.
  10. So.....just to ask...what is your one top tier song U2 have released since HTDAAB?
  11. Red Flag Day. It is the only studio song since 2005 that I have saved on my phone's music library. I do have the other songs too but only live versions as I have every live release/broadcast/soundboard bootleg in that library as well. A few hundred GB worth. When I listen to a full show, I listen to whatever comes on but if I am in a Random mood, I will skip every non Red Flag Day song post 2005. I just can't connect with them.

Oh wait. I forgot Every Breaking Wave, specifically the EMA version. Not a fan of the studio version. After those 2, the song I like the most is American Soul. I like that one quite a bit, especially the live versions. Not as good as RFD but the best of the rest in my opinion.

Totally know I am in a very small minority with this.
  12. I get it - the frustration of waiting. It’s not like last year’s gift (Apollo) or the one from year before (Berlin DVD) where we knew what was coming from the get go. This one’s also a bigger deal than the ie/ei live release from 2019 (?).

We’re waiting on live versions of songs from their best album (imho) and it’s been a relatively long wait. We’re being patient but this has the chance of being the best subscription gift yet. Let’s get this going!

Dang. I broke my oath (again!!!!) not to post in this thread until the track listing was released.
