U2:UV Achtung Baby at the Sphere
Legs (1): 2023-2024
Shows: 40
Tickets:
  1. I do t know much of his (later) solo work but that would work for me.

Why does he perform Roxanne twice? Is he trying to get the crowd super drunk?
  2. Well U2 played Vertigo twice in 2005.

What song would U2 play twice in Vegas?
  3. It’d have to be a shorter, upbeat tune. IWF? Desire? Elevation (yikes!)?

They probably just want a big name to launch the opening of this new state of the art venue with a handful of shows. U2 couldn’t even sell out 2 shows at T-Mobile Arena in 2018. I expect no more than 5-6 shows, the venue will sell more tickets than the band does.

It’s not like U2 are playing a small theater at the Golden Nugget for a month. Don’t sweat it, people.

You kind of have to understand what Vegas is. It's not a place where it is the same old locals going to shows over and over. It has a tremendous amount of new tourists every single day. If they had the right pricing structure on tickets, they could play 3 shows a week for eternity. I'm a huge Elton John fan, he played tons of shows there, most of them sold out or close. With U2 fans aging, a lot of the American and International tourists would go. I am scared of them phoning it in after say 10 shows, but it very well could just be 5-15 shows, but I would bet on 15-30, or as much as they want. If the ticket prices are not outrageous, they could simply print money. As far as a real tour, They could play 3 shows in most major markets to cut down on travel. it's what any solid legacy act can do.
Stinks to call U2 a legacy act, but the days of them playing tons of songs from a new album are over. And we all know the pattern that started early for them with Pop, that skipped a bit until 360, where they play a bunch of new songs, somebody tells them they are not relevant, and then they end up dropping a lot of the new songs to do a hits tour. SOI and SOE not quite as much, but I noticed fans yawning a bit for the new material. My dream of them making an album that is simply a bunch of good songs where they are not seeking hits or relevancy is probably never going to happen.

On Popmart they never played less than 7 songs from pop each night as well as HMTMKMKM which was its first available tour to be played on. They still promote new material really well. 360 is the only tour since the mid 80’s where they averaged less than 7 new songs a night except the JT anniversary tours which weren’t about promoting new material.

I should have written this better. As a Pop freak, I was pissed they dropped Miami, Do You Feel Loved, and gave up on learning Staring At The Sun. 360 is the only time they really did that, and since I went to 6 of those, the last 3 were sad without Breathe, and then leaving it as a bonus track on the dvd was an insult. The JT tour does actually give some life to my point. I nearly sold my life to get to the 3 shows and not once did Little Things or anything new. Now don't get me wrong, I loved JT30, but it was proving they were a legacy act. With SOI/SOE they tried to get it back, but the new material made NLOTH look like Achtung Baby. Neither are bad albums, but I've never really gotten into SOI. SOE I like a lot more, but they never played my favorites at my lone show...No Red Flag Day, no Little Things...but in the end, we gave U2 a great life, and they gave us a great band to follow, warts and all. And not that many warts!

I can relate to that actually as California and the troubles are my favourite songs from SOI and they hardly played them and never on the European tour so I never had a realistic chance of seeing them. Landlady is in my top 4 on SOE and I never witnessed that one either, did get little things thankfully. I don’t get into arguments anymore about whether they are a legacy act or not and I mean that respectfully. I think it’s open to everyone’s own interpretation but I do really enjoy the way the band do things live. I know people point to a band like Pearl jam who could play 2 very different setlists from one show to the next but I really wouldn’t change the way u2 do it where every time they play a new tour I’m pretty much guaranteed to see about 2/3 of the album live, all tracks I’ll be witnessing live for the first time. Hopefully they keep that up, maybe if they don’t it will be time for me to start seeing them more as a legacy act as well. I feel like the vast majority of bands that have been going on as long or even half the time u2 have fall back on the more well known songs more often and don’t give as much love to the new stuff. It would be interesting to see if someone could name me 5 well established bands who average 7 songs from their latest album each night on a tour. I think it would be a hard find.
  8. Funny California is my second favorite on SOI, but only when it is my NO Bah Bah Bah Bur Uh mix. EBW acoustic is my favorite, as I couldn't stand the Teddy Bear Tedder version. Landlady is up there for me on SOE too, much better than Best Thing or American Volcano, Or Love Is Not Bigger Than A Lame attempt at an anthem.
