1. Fair enough. But curtained off sections for the opening night of the tour still isn't a good look. Not that it was the only show that had curtained off sections, from memory.

I’m interested though how they came up with this standing figure, usually when they do that it suggests the layout can be changed but the image I seen looks more of a permanent lay out so I’m confused. What I would say is it looks an amazing place to see a gig. Not having to worry about a side on view, and that steepness of the seats will add to a much more intimate feeling for a gig.
What are the official capacity figures of MSG Sphere Vegas? Wiki lists 17,500 seating capacity, with a total capacity of 20,000 including standing capacity. So as deanallison says, you'd think the low sloping bottom tier seats must be able to be removed, for a higher capacity standing floor. As is the case in many modern arenas.

Looking at the construction pics, it looks like the upper tiers are well under way. But nothing on that bottom tier. So hopefully it's removable. Leaving what looks to be a pretty generous floor area.

Sure, it's quite wide, & not that deep. So you're not going to get a long arena stage like i+e to fit, it wouldn't even fit in Dublin's arena properly. But I'd hope something like the Elevation & Vertigo arena stages would fit. Or come up with catwalks/b-stages that push more to the sides.

Yes, care would need to be taken, not to push parts of the stage too far forward, limiting the view of people in the seats.

But those tiers look very steep, & the renders look like they could push catwalks/b-stages half way across the floor, while still allowing seated views to see them.

Hopefully that's the case. Always nice to have b-stages & catwalks, getting the band out amongst the GA crowd. Love my additional rail space too

  3. And because of a deal with LiveNation. Tulsa arena negotiated 10 opening nights with acts or something.

I actually don’t think Tulsa had any curtained off areas. St.Louis the 2nd night did. A few other night 2’s had this, including Chicago N2 which I was at. Couldn’t believe it, but I guess over saturation is a thing.

It should be noted too that several shows on Elevation had either the entire rear stage area curtained off, or the upper level of the rear. 2 shows I saw in Indianapolis and Columbus had that. Most bands in arenas go for end stages, with no rear stage seating. So I wouldn’t say U2 are a failure for doing this occasionally… just more like every other band on occasion.

Yep, good chance I'm wrong. Remember seeing the threads with the curtains up. Going over the tour schedule I thought it was Tulsa & St Louis. But in the case of Tulsa, it looks like it was not.

Yeah, certainly a case of over-saturation. 4 US legs over 3 tours, in 4 years. While those down under still waited & waited for shows. Thankfully we were thrown a bone in 2019. I'm certainly biased & still stinging for my Aussie friends. But F U Live Nation
  7. Considering MSG Sphere's capacity and technical capabilities and the rumors that the rest of the tour is going to be stadium shows, how likely is it that these will essentially be different shows? With maybe some setlist similarities and certain visuals carried over from one to another, but it's difficult to imagine performing in this venue and not specifically designing the show with it in mind, at least partially. Perhaps the tour would be more focused on promoting the new album and the Vegas shows more of a nostalgia/legacy act?
