1. Every month we put a U2 fan in the spotlights, the fan of the month September of 2022 is user Kembacelts8. Read along for the interview we had with this U2 fan.

"Seeing U2 for the first time ever and it being in my home province of New Brunswick and somewhere I have lived in Moncton and it being the final show of the biggest and highest grossing tour ever at the time was something that is hard to put into words."

Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?

Hey my name is Cal, I work for public services and I am a big music, movie and sports fan!

How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?

I don't remember exactly when I first became a U2 fan, but my mother was a big fan and had the 1980-1990 CD so I grew up listening to the big songs in my childhood and then like any high school kid who was into rock n roll began to discover they had a lot more songs haha.

You have seen one U2 show, and what a show. Hometown, final day of the tour, Moncton 360. Tell us everything about that experience.

Yes, this was incredible. Seeing U2 (who are my favorite band) for the first time ever and it being in my home province of New Brunswick and somewhere I have lived in Moncton and it being the final show of the biggest and highest grossing tour ever at the time was something that is hard to put into words. Walking up Magnetic Hill local time at 230PM, waiting to get in and looking over and seeing this huge thing in the field in Moncton is an experience you can't ever replicate or forget about. It had rained heavy before the show and was extremely muddy, but my brother and I were about 10 feet from the catwalk on the Edges side. Bono at one point came close enough to touch us and I just couldn't stop thinking I am seeing this in Moncton, which I am sure a lot of people were thinking haha. Arcade Fire are another band I love and having them as the opener was incredible as I hadn't seen them yet either. The show U2 put on from the performances to the setlist it was all truly perfect. I know most people say that, but this night, seeing that final show of 360 in Moncton, it was and still is my favorite concert experience.

What does your U2 collection look like? What kind of stuff do you have and how is it organised?

I don't have a big physical U2 collection. I have U2 by U2 and U2 at the end of the world books. I have owned a lot of their cds over the years, but the only one I currently have is Songs of Experience. I still have my U2 360 Tour T-shirt though, can never get rid of that.

When you're forced to leave to a deserted island and you can take only one U2 album with you, which would it be?

While I am tempted to take How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, I will choose Achtung Baby. It is a perfect album, I really like and mostly love every song on the album and it has my favorite song "Ultraviolet"

Which member of the band would you most like to share a pint with?

    The Edge.

What are your expectations of U2's upcoming albums?

I actually really liked SOI and even more so SOE so if it is at least that quality I will be happy!

Which U2 song do you feel the most "attached" to, or means the most for you?

As much as I love so many songs, especially "With or without you", my favorite song is "Ultraviolet (Light my Way)". That song has always really spoken to me. The ending with "baby, baby, baby" has always resonated with me and would love to hear this song live!

How different is U2 compared to other artists that you like?

I am pretty much a rock and roll only fan so U2 fits in with most of the other artists I love: Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, The Killers, Radiohead, Arcade Fire The National, Pearl Jam, Coldplay among many, many others!

What are your hobbies and interests away from U2, musical or otherwise?

Sports, movies and TV. Big movie and TV fan, but my biggest passion is sports, big Boston sports fan and love all 4 of the Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins.

    Thank you!

    Thanks for this interview Kembacelts8!

  2. Great read, thank you!
How wonderful to have U2 play 'in your backyard" for your first show.
Yesterday I just found out that there are direct flights to Moncton from where I live, so if U2 ever play there again, expect me and others to come over.
If you should ever decide to fly over to a U2 show in Germany, you're welcome to stay at our place.
  3. "Ultra Violet" as favorite song = excellent choice. Also "U2 at the End of the World" remains one of the best books I've ever read.

Love the picture outside the Game of Thrones studio tour...are you watching House of the Dragon right now?
  4. Great to see this! Are you still in Moncton? I went to school at Mount A so was in and out of Moncton for years. Still try to get up around those parts yearly for a visit…

Gosh I hope they come back, but sadly the man who was the driving force behind Magnetic Hill concerts passed away and the city kind of gave up on them. Thank you so much for that offer! So kind! The same goes to you and your family!

Yeah I just visited Ireland in June for the first time ever! The studio tour is pretty incredible. All the legit sets and costumes. House of the Dragon is good so far!
