Little (things that give you away) did Bono know then that the JT shows would turn into the JT 17 Tour....But his info was great because it let all know to start saving $ and save your vacation days....Thats the level of info I am suggesting regarding the band telling us their future album / tour plans.
But hasn't Bono basically come clean about where everything's at?
    1. Songs of Surrender is coming soon.
    2. The new album of original songs is being recorded and will be out when it's ready.
    3. There might be Las Vegas shows centered around Achtung Baby next year - but it's not 100% confirmed yet and the new album is their priority.
Is there anything major that is kept from public knowledge right now?

We’ve seen the backlash Wanderer gets when plans change. Could you imagine the uproar when Bono or the band announce a 5 year plan, and an album or tour will happen in X year, but it doesn’t because of whatever reason? Moreover, it then creates even more pressure on deadlines in the U2 camp if the band publicly state their plans, which could leave to another POP/POPMART scenario and songs being “unfinished”.*

The band announce things when they’re actually happening. U2.com, as it should be, is the definitive place for confirmed news regarding the band. I’m sure when the band are ready to tour again, whether that is Vegas or in 2024, the band will tell us as soon as it is officially confirmed - like the JT 2016 video.

Regarding the JT 2016 video, I wasn’t as big as a fan back then as I am now. The video was the first I heard about the JT tour or SOE, but hadn’t U2Songs already leaked the tour info already? So fans already had an idea to save their dollars and vacations days - similar to how they leaked the 2019 tour?

*I don’t think this will actually happen btw. The band have pretty much said they will only tour when they have new music to play. So I think they’ll take their time to actually finish their songs and only release them when they are ready.

At that point the first two legs of the tour were planned and the venues booked, so yes they knew when filming that Christmas video that it was a full blown tour. It was announced in full less than two weeks later. I had been given a good chunk of the dates before the video was posted. It didn’t give a lot of time to save money. Two weeks.

  5. Yeah. A slow paced 7 minute song. No way that is doing anything on the charts.
  6. Simple marketing techniques. Why would you have 2 of your products competing against each other? Release one. Let it have the spotlight. Wait for the hype to decline then release the next product.
  7. I heard they’ve turned it into a American Soul meets AC/DC total cockrock banger
  8. Sometimes it’s not up to U2. The publisher put a lot of money into this book. I imagine they expect certain things in return which will include so much of Bono’s time to promote the project. It is the publisher that has put the “Songs of Surrender” tour together, and other events Bono has been participating in.

Ding ding ding. Especially at a time of year when books are big stocking fillers.
  10. Maybe it will drop once U2 get inducted in to Kennedy Center
