  1. It does come across as unreasonable getting annoyed at the band not releasing material at a rate they want them to or not touring the way they want them to. The band don’t need to do any of this at all, nor do they need to retire before someone suggests they should do that instead then. They are fully entitled to tour and release albums at whatever rate they wish and tbh after 40 + years in the business I think it’s pretty shameful the way fans act towards them. Questioning every decision they make, putting them down in all range of topics including how they look which is just laughable, maybe the next time a fan becomes unwell we should all get a picture of them when they’re recovering and comment on how terrible they look, sounds like fun doesn’t it? Like or dislike, I do and I don’t think the band would want fans to feel like they shouldn’t be critical of their material, but if you’re really a fan give the guys a break in constantly having a go for the pettiest thing.

No, obviously there wouldn't have been a problem. I was more than OK with that idea. But having the JT30 between them (even without knowing the truth behind the contract they had to fulfill, etc)..... man, that's just no good

    Anyway, we're deviating a bit
  3. Its not always been a love affair for me with U2. I’ve even jumped off the ship a couple of times when not happy with what they were putting out or where I found my life going a different path. And that includes skipping some tour legs when I haven’t been feeling it.

It didn’t change they have a lot of songs I have always loved and always will love. And a lot of amazing shows I have been able to get to. Those are there regardless.

And it didn’t hurt to take a breather. Both times I did take a break when I was lured back I enjoyed what they were doing even more because I had had a bit of separation. If this project isn’t for you think about skipping it. I hear the next one will be quite different…

I’ve been listening to U2 for 40 years now. I’m kind of enjoying these looks into the rear view mirror. Last year I sat down and listened to every song, because I was writing a book that looks at each and every song. But if not for that? Some of these songs aren’t in my playlist any more. Pride is one I almost never listen to. And this week I’ve found myself with it running around my brain a bit. Contemplating the lyrics and how they’ve changed. Really love how the drums come in - reminded me instantly of the drumming on “The Troubles” in concert…

Is it better than the original? Most of these will never be better. But it’s good to sit and listen again with fresh ears. I’m hoping there’s 10-15 that I enjoy enough to listen to over time. (I’m not hopeful it’s the 16 on the single disc version haha.) But then again I’ve always been a fan of alternate versions of the songs. “The Fly” from the Elevation tour. That remix of “I’ll Go Crazy”, Martha Wainwright’s version of “Stories for Boys”. It’s rare I actually go back and listen to the originals anymore anyway…

Just a few thoughts. Off to continue hunting for the alternate vinyl colours that will be popping up…I’m sure I’ll be in Vegas, and I’ll enjoy whatever they put together for SOS / Baby. I’m in a spot I am enjoying what they do and interested to hear more.
  4. I'll see you in Vegas and buy you an overpriced beer 🍷

Well said and thanks for sharing. I took quite a break from U2 myself after 2018 and have only recently been listening to the band a lot again, so reading and seeing Bono’s book/tour and hearing these reimagined songs has actually been quite meaningful and fun for me. It’s made me relive a lot of great memories and appreciate what these songs have meant to me since being a teenager. No I don’t expect the SOS versions to be better than the originals and yes I am very glad a new album is coming! But I am going to enjoy this experiment for what it is, too.

Also, just to bring this post back to Vegas…I am still holding out hope that my wife will let us invest in a great weekend involving airfare, hotel stay, and concert tickets.

    well said
  7. Fun Fact: Vegas is an environmental nightmare in real time. Bloated and obscene. I hope U2 is witty enough to sing about "rivers running dry". Enjoy the jumbo shrimp.
  8. at least there's plenty to do either side of the shows

Can’t wait to see how they mix in the environmental angle into these shows. It’s supposed to play a big role…
  10. Is it for the band? Never heard them much about it
  11. Imagine spending $2000 on hotel and airfare to sit in a GA line all day.
  12. As someone who’s fav U2 album is AB & has only heard 5 of the songs live, it would be beyond incredible to hear the other 7.
