"It manages to be noisy and vital, never letting up the forward momentum, while somehow also being full of compelling atmospheres. The coda of 'Surrender' puts me in a trance and the soundscapes of 'Drowning Man' really are something else, and that's just two of the songs. It's also very earthy, and "in the real world". I love it when albums feel like a day out in the city, and can pull out the surreal and atmospheric from what's around them. "
favorite song: New Year's Day
"Sprawling, haunting, and visceral all at once. Draws me into both internal reflection/painful observation (the piano figure, Edge's sky-scraping guitars) and to external action (the bassline, Bono's "AND MAYBE THE TIME IS RIIIIIGHT"/"I will begin again"). Just unreal stuff.
Stay (Faraway, So Close!) is a close second favourite. "
