1. U2 - peace On Earth.
    Heaven on earth
    We need it now
I'm sick of all of this
    Hanging around
    Sick of sorrow
    Sick of pain
Sick of hearing again and again
    That there's gonna be
    Peace on earth

Yes they lyrics and you could pick out another few lines from that song. I think the line ‘she never got to say goodbye, to see the colour in his eyes,
Now he’s in the dirt’ is brutally great. That’s really hard hitting.
  3. I was drinking some wine
    And it turned to blood
    What's the use of religion
    If you're any good
    You know I'm weed-killer, honey
    And you're sugar
    If you're the prosecution
    I get away with murder

    If you were ice
    I'm water
    And with your telescope
    I can see further
    We're binary code
    A one and a zero
    You wanted violins
    And you got Nero

    You're gravity
    Searching for the ground
    You're silence
    Searching for a sound
    Your heart is aching
    Your heart is my home
    It's fascinating
I know I'll never be alone

    When I'm rippin' the stitches
    Without two cents to rub
    I'm digging the ditches
    Of someone else's luck

    Love, hears, when I lie
Love puts the blue back in my eye
    Love will come again
    I'll be gone again
    Again

    If you hunger
    Baby let me feed it
    If your heart is full
    Baby let me bleed it
    And happiness is for
Those who don't really need it
    You love me, too much
You always loved me, too much

When I was rippin' the stiches
    Without two cents to rub
    I'm diggin' the ditches
    Of someone else's luck

    Love, hears, when I lie
Love puts the blue back in my eye
    Love will come again
    I'll be gone again
Love's, got, to be with the weak
Only then love gets a chance to speak
    Love will come again
    I'll be gone again
    Again..

    I, I can't escape myself
    I hear your toll
    Feel nothing
    I feel nothing
    Fee-ee-ee-ee-eel
    I've been so wrong
    Feel nothing
    I've been so wrong
    Feel, nothing

    Love will come again
    I'm alive again
Love is the end, of history
    The enemy of misery
    Love will come again
    I'm alive again
    Love is justice, not charity
    Love brings with it clarity
    Love will come again
    I'm alive agian
    Again..

    I am alive
Baby I'm born again, and again
    And again and again
    Again..

  5. The night gave you a song
A light had been turned on
You walked out in the world
    Like you belong

You have a face not spoiled by beauty
I have some scars from where I've been
You've got eyes that can see right through me
You're not afraid of anything they've seen
I was told that I would feel nothing the first time
I don't know how these cuts heal
But in you I found a rhyme

    A lover like no other
She got soul, soul, soul, sweet soul
And she teach me how to sing
Shows me colours when there's none to see
Gives me hope when I can't believe
    But for the first time
    I feel loved

You took me by the hand
I thought that I was leading you
But it was you made me your man

    So take my hand
    You know I'll be there
    If you can
I'll cross the sky for your love
    For I have promised
Oh, to be with you tonight
And for the time that will come

    These winds and tides
    This change of times
    Won't drag you away

Hold on, and hold on tightly
Hold on, and don't let go
    Of my love

The storms will pass / The storm will pass
It won't be long now / It won't be long now
    His love will last
    His love will last... forever

    Hold on, hold on tightly
Hold on, and hold on tightly
    Rise up, rise up
    With wings like eagles

    Because Sometimes
    The end isn’t coming
    It’s not coming
    The end is here
    Sometimes

The stars are bright but do they know
The universe is beautiful but cold...

  6. I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms

    Always loved this song.

Nick Cave is genius, I also love his lyrics...
  8. While reading a novel, I stumbled upon the Basque folk singer Mikel Laboa. He has really beautiful songs like this one (lyrics are from Xabier Lete)

I translated the lyrics for you (starting with a translation from Euskara) and it goes like this:

I do not fear the coming winter
    in the heat of midsummer
because I know that the present
will go on in the future,
    like an immovable chain,
in a line the instants form,
    until everything becomes the present,
in the root of mortal beings.

I do not fear, during dawn,
    the icy white breath,
    when the immensity of nature
    seems lifeless, like a corpse
Because the heart has the light
of all the beautiful, long gone suns
and the memories of the past
like a thousand spirits in the eyes.

    It doesn't frighten me
having to lose my breath at the last moment,
    even if the cliff
is at the end of the simple path,
    the new wine will sweeten
the old branches of the vineyards,
    our present will give meaning
    to the future of others.

    It doesn't sadden me
to pick the last flowers in the garden,
    to wander, breathless,
    beyond any confinement ,
    To surrender all senses
in the middle of the sunset light,
Because death brings with it a dream
that calms all the other dreams forever.

Those are some of the best lyrics I've seen, even if I'm butchering the translation, and that's how you write about mortality.

Wow ♥ Gorgeous music and lyrics (not so sure about the singing, but that doesn't matter much - look at Dylan).

PS. Basque is such, such, such a weird language And yet (or hence?) it attracts me inevitably.

These are some of the most poetic words I have ever read. And believe me, I have assimilated countless poems, dramas, tragedies, etc that writers have provided mankind with over many centuries. This is among the most touching, thoughtful and inspiring works I know. Thanks so much for sharing.

    You just made my day.
    Hugs and all the love.
