I find it understandable that he's trying different guitars while doing the promo - he did the same on the NLOTH promo tour for most of the songs.

I can think of some other changes though. For example, he's played One on a plenty of different guitars (ES-335 and Casino during Zoo TV... Gretsch Silver Jet (or similar) for Belfast 1998, Gretsch Country Gentleman during Popmart, different Les Paul's during Elevation, Vertigo and 360... Gretsch Green Falcon in Modena 95 and probably others I can't remember). NYD's change from the blackie Strat to a Les Paul after so many years (1982-1993) was really radical though, you're right. It's like if he started playing Streets on the Explorer or something

I was watching this Dortmund shows that got posted on the BTBS thread... And just noticed another shocking guitar swap...

I Will Follow (24:40) performed on a Stratocaster!! There's so little Lovetown footage that I had never realized he played IWF on his cream Strat these days. It's so strange. I know the Strat was his fetish guitar by then, but IWF is just THE Explorer song!! It already looked so wrong when played on a Les Paul during Popmart, but a Strat? C'mon! And there's no excuse since they used to play Streets>IWF as well during the Joshua Tree tour and he had time to change the guitar, so that's not the point. Puzzling Edge and his puzzling guitar changes!!

PS. I guess he got confused by playing IWF on a Strat, that's why he fell down in the middle of the song... Watch it - hilarious
  2. A photo made available on 04 November 2014 shows an Edge Studio-used Gretsch guitar signed by U2 (bottom) and singer Bono's Gretsch Irish Falcon guitar (L) are on display as part of the Icons and Idols: Rock N' Roll collection at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, USA, 03 November 2014. The auction will take place 7-8 November 2014.

I wonder when and for which song did Edge use that beautiful Gretsch ♥

    Reckon they'll take IOUs?

Listening further on, it sounds like his take on Bad. Don't think it's actually a note-for-note rendition of any U2 song, but more just him noodling to give a flavour of the tone.

Damn I need a proper Strat (or something tasty with 3 single p'ups).

Isn't that the Gretsch he used for Invisible?
  5. I have decided that Edge's main tone for WOWY (for the open-string ringingness) is my favourite one. That is all.

(and the one he used for the solos in ZooTV, that was gooooooooooood)

That's an Epiphone casino, pal, and its totally the wrong guitar to play that song on.

  7. This is something I just wrote, guys.
  8. Hauntingly beautiful, Cal It sounds like Coldplay covering Cedars Of Lebanon (which is a very positive thing to say in my opinion - already sorry if it bothers you) but with a very distinctive taste. And love the instrument stopping at 3:20 on the "couldn't care less - till the day I die" part. Lovely!

Just out of curiosity... What's the main string instrument playing at the intro? It sounds like some Asian medieval fingerpick harp, something like this:

  9. So, this has just been uploaded to our photo section, with the title:

Edge in L.A. with the Bob Bradshaw Son and his new Rack for the upcoming tour

Bob Bradshaw has been designing (or helping with) Edge's guitar racks since the Elevation Tour (although he worked with him from as early as 1992) with the impressive results we all know Any guesses from anything potentially new in the rack?

It's a good ol' Irish harp.
