I dont know about anybody else here on the forums, but I write a lot of music. I go through phases where I get a lot of guitar written (which is the only instrument I REALLY play), but no lyrics, and then phases where I get a lot of lyrics written, but can never match them with music. Without a band, it's hard to turn these into solid, solid ideas...but the lyrics are fun to write, all the time, and since I'm not really getting paid to entertain people with them like U2 are, I don't really have to worry TOO much about them being terrible, so my self esteem usually doesn't take a battering when I read them again months later
Anyway, the point of this was for anyone who's ever written anything- songs, poetry, any form of lyric- to be able to share it with the rest of the guys and gals. I figure we've all got nothing to lose, and feedback never really is a bad thing, whether its positive or constructive criticism. So share what you've got! It'll be a good time, I hope.
Here's something I wrote over the summer of 2009. It's the only song I've actually ever "completed", in that I wrote all the music and lyrics for it and actually have it recorded, on my iPod. I had to sing it, since I didn't really have a band at the time, which is why so few people have heard it (not too cocky about my voice, haha ), but I'm especially proud not only of the song itself, but that I actually got it 100% done like I promised myself I would. It sounds vaguely similar to "She Talks to Angels" by The Black Crowes, but by no means identical.
quote :
Everything's Gonna Be Alright
By: Matt
Verse I
She don't know nobody different
She don't know nobody else
The nights that he don't come a runnin', yeah,
Are the nights she spends all by herself
She lives her life no questions answered
She don't care for the truth it seems
The only happiness she's faking, yeah,
Is the kind she passes off in dreams
Chorus
And it's not too much she's asking
Just to have someone tonight
To lay right down beside her,
And whisper...
Everything's gonna be alright
Verse II
She don't play nobody's favorite
She's just a conversation piece
A victim of some kind of depression
Arrested by the social police
She never shouts out in excitement
She likes to think she knows her place
She only seems to go a-missin'
When she's standing right in front of his face
Chorus
And it's not too much she's asking
For the words she may never hear
She's begging him for clarity
She needs to hear it crystal clear,
That everything's gonna be alright
Small, conservative solo Verse III
She's giving up what she called hope, now
That empty feeling she knew well
And it's unclear as who's to blame
For this life so closely resembling hell
Those words she wants- does she deserve them?
No matter how hard she pleas
And if she gets them, will they cure her?
Drive away this sick disease?
Chorus
Cause it's not really asking
If it's only in her head
And the only remedy she knows
Is going to leave her dead
So she closes all the windows
And she turns out all the lights
As she tells herself her final words-
Everything's gonna be alright
Music outro/fade out
Post yours!!

Hah, thanks...like I said, it always comes in spurts for me like that. I'll get something really hammered out, but its only ever half the process. Either JUST the music or JUST the lyrics. It's really, really hard to sit down and NOT write "You're on the road...but you've got no destination..." or something else U2, ya know? It's whats in your head, and its what you want to say, and then it gets stuck there and you can't really overcome it.
That is awesome, Matt, really amazing!! You really wrote all music parts (chord structure, rhythm, guitar parts, etc) for the whole song!?!?!? Woooooooww
I'm not good composing music at all, but I write poems and lyrics pretty often, and I'm pretty good if I may say that. Most are in spanish of course, but I've wrote some in english too... If I find the time someday I'll share some here
PS. Just to know a bit more, which chords has your song got??
Here is our band´s youtube channel : http://www.youtube.com/hajekpc
All the songs are instrumental for now. We wrote some lyrics too, but we can´t find the way to put them together with the music. It´s not as easy as it seems ... I hope you´ll llike it. And please, don´t laught at the early Zeppelin covers. The begginings were really crapppy

God it's been SO long since I played it, I couldn't even tell you. It's a slower song...and it's really not that complex. It has just a few chords, with some slight variations/hammer-ons throughout, but yeah I organized it, and wrote the rhythm and everything, and the solo that goes over the rhythm. No drums or anything like that- a bare-bones, stripped, "acoustic" song, although it's played on a clean electric guitar. It just felt more right than an acoustic, though I originally wrote it that way.
Later on I'll have more time, and perhaps I'll even host the mp3 somewhere so you guys can hear it. Not gonna kill me I guess. As long as people know its not supposed to be me singing, in an ideal world.
