1. Acrobat is one of the best u2 songs ever. BOYH could have been the best of SOE, but misses at least 2 minutes.
  2. I consider myself brave for thinking and posting that Acrobat is SUPREMELY overrated by the folks around here and if the boys busted it out live, for me it'd be cool for the novelty, nothing else. It was like Red Hill on the JT tour. For the first minute or two it was like "man this is awesome", and then I realized why the band never wanted to play it.

Acrobat to me just sounds like a jam (which is in fact where it came from, it's a song based on a jam at a soundcheck in Australia on the Lovetown tour) with some sort of throwaway platitudes on top courtesy of Bono. I'm not saying it's a BAD song, but I don't think it's better than anything else on that album, frankly. The song doesn't really go anywhere dynamically for me, it sort of just starts intense and stays the same for 5 minutes. It's like a live recording they had and Eno went "this is done." Yeah it's interesting and cool, but the rest of the album is so clearly and cleverly put together, and this song sort of lacks that for me.

I'm rambling, but I really don't think it's as good as so many around here think it is. I'd take the album version of Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. That song is just vibes galore. I know what you're thinking, "this guy is fucking nuts", and that's fine

Same seems to be going for this song. I love the "sound" of it, but the song itself to me is sort of "meh", and it sounds like a b-side, and I'm glad it was kept as one.

That’s ok. I love the track.
  4. I prefer Stateless.
BOYH takes me to that song, for whatever reason...

Trying to throw your arms is the worst song on AB. You can write long stories here, but that does not change anything.
  6. Somebody else posted(lost on who did lol, too lazy to look) Again, like with Crystal Ballroom, I'll have to agree with the band that it doesn't fit in the album, despite being a top 5(?) song.

My self righteous pious insegrevious opinion:
The band have probably wasted 2,000 hours of their life worrying about if a particular song fits in with the "Sonic Landscape" of the Album. I think they pay way way way too much attention to this "strict" rule of theirs. A good song is a good song. As long as the album is less than 79 minutes, just draw a line under the track listing, and make them bonus tracks. That way, the can have their self righteous idea of what the album is, and the fans can have the bonus tracks. But my true argument is that Book Of Your Heart should be above the drawn line, and be considered an album track, just like Crystal Ballroom, Invisible, Lucifer's Verified Ticket Scam Hands, and Ordinary Love should have been... A "Deluxe" edition of a cd should be a second disc, and all cds should be 70-79 minutes. As cds further decline in popularity, they should simply make value for those who still like the format.

Way to post your opinion as fact, and then follow it up with a lame sentiment.

You can write these little comments here, "but that does not change anything".

I'd argue that "Trying" has more of a place on the album than Acrobat does, which to me is just awkwardly placed there near the end. There's no other sort of "chill" song on the album, nor was there any song like that in U2's career before that. A love song about drinking too much. I love it.

Of course I'm arguing this for the sake of discussion, as I love Acrobat, but it is my least favourite song on the album. The only one that maybe beats it is So Cruel, but I don't think so.

Those are my 2 favourite tracks on the album.
Funny, although for me all the tracks on AB are brilliant.
  9. That’s what I was trying to say, I love them all, but possibly Acrobat the least, and I do think it’s overrated amongst the fan base, but hey, that’s what opinions are for!

I get it. Everybody has there own favourite tracks.
For me it makes a lot of difference between the live tracks and album tracks, though.
Therefore I think So Cruel and Acrobat are among my favourites on AB (The LP).

Really? Achtung to me is so great, it is very difficult to say "worst song." Perhaps Wild Horses as that Vacant Lot line is pretty corny, but I think the production and sound of the album is remarkably consistent. As I posted above, I am starting to get sick of albums having the same exact production and specifications, or strict rules. Sure, I don't want a bluegrass song and Auto Tune, but U2 have played it safe for long. Their string of albums with the same type of production was crazy good but got a bit stale around NLOTH, which I still love. Now the Stew of SOI and SOE with the trendy production of Ryan Teddy Bear Tedder, Jacknife Lee, etc, really does not sound all that innovative. Sure Lanois and Eno were getting a bit stale, but I'd rather then Lillywhite, Eno and Lanois just produce them and forget about the musical chairs of the biggest fad production. Book Of Your Heart belongs on the album for this reason...sick of them throwing great songs aside.

I think NLOTH is there best album this century.
It still is the only one that jumps out over the others.
