Joshua Tree Tour 2017
Legs (3): Leg 1 - North America, Leg 2 - Europe, Leg 3 - The Americas
Shows: 54
  1. Why is closing with The Little Things considered any worse than closing with Moment Of Surrender? Ok MOS was released at that point but there's no doubt casual fans were still heading for the exit when they heard a song of NLOTH Follow WOWY. I think they should have just stuck with The Little Things and I definitely agree with Alex that it should be the tour closer on the next tour. Maybe the band have dropped it just to keep it fresh for the next tour.
  2. It's no different than closing with Moment of Surrender and people bitched about it just as much then as they are now.

I wasn't around here as much then, so didnt realise there was a lot of negativity surrounding MOS being a closer. I think both songs work however, sometimes a gig can just end on a calmer tone, it doesn't need to always send you out bouncing. Plus I find that whole outro at the end of The Little Things musically uplifting.
  4. MOS Is a great closer. Better than Walk One, One, ISHFWILF
  5. I think nowadays people here consider MOS as a U2 classic and would LOVE to see it close a show, but I can guarantee there will be people leaving during MOS if they brought it out. But at the time the jury was definitely out on MOS being a good way to close the show.

Regarding The Little Things, I was most struck by Bono's vocals during the song. This song was definitely made to showcase his voice and he does a really good job with it.
  6. I almost agree but I'm a big fan of Walk On in general and as a closer.
  7. One would actually be a fantastic closer if they played it as they did during IE but not karaoke style.

One during IE made me really mad because I love how they changed up the drums to add a build-up of energy towards the end of the song but then Bono decided to do it karaoke style...
  8. Closing with Little Things is totally different than closing with MOS because of the obvious reason: one was in the album that the tour was supporting, and the other one hasn't been released. Easy as that. The 360 equivalent to closing with Little Things would have been closing with Every Breaking Wave (the primitive guitar version) or North Star.

And I don't think nor I recall many hardcore fans complained about MOS closing the 360 shows... It was generally accepted as the perfect anticlimatic closer for these shows, a la LIB.
  9. I feel like it was split, especially when they started adding songs after.

    Closing with IWF - Safe
Closing with a new unreleased song - Risky

If "dropping the only 2 songs not from the JT album aimed at the hardcore fans and replacing them with sure hits" is not safe, then I don't know what safe is anymore.

  11. +1. I didn't get IWF when I went, but I did get Vertigo. The energy was a great way to close the show. At first I wanted to hear The Little Things, but I'm glad I got Vertigo instead.
  12. I don't recall anyone complaining about Moment of Surrender.
