The Pretenders opening for U2 on the Joshua Tree Tour in Dublin, one would assume the crowd would be extremely anxious for U2 to hit the stage but they give Chrissie and the boys a warm welcome and enthusiastic response including the calls for an encore.
I was suspect what could be done with this one as there is a boisterous crowd around the taper and combining the outdoor venue and likely cramped taping area created some sway between the channels as well as an overall flat feel to the recording. I was able to pull out much of the audience noise and balance the channels.
It also ran extremely slow and pitch adjusting it to the correct speed improved on some of the flatness. A few additional subtle frequency tweaks in the final mastering and I'm extremely pleased with the end result.
Highly listenable recording of a tight set in front of a warm appreciative crowd.
Thanks to MR for the files, samples and artwork provided....
Yes, The Pretenders as a support act. Unbelievable. They were great also in Rotterdam, Feyenoord stadium. I was there. It was my first U2 gig. Amazing but too short.
