Originally posted by Noway93:As much as I love to hear Elevation, Vertigo etc I would have really loved to hear some of these classics (listed below) sung on this tour. The Joshua Tree wasn't just the 11 songs chosen for the album. It was these songs as well. The great Rattle & Hum was also part of the same period. Who would have been disappointed if Angel of Harlem had replaced One and/or Helter-skelter Skelter had opened the concert.
Classics missing from The Joshua Tree 2017
Luminous Times (Hold On To Love)
Walk To The Water
Spanish Eyes
Deep In The Heart
Silver And Gold
Sweetest Thing
Race Against Time
Silver and Gold
Other songs such as Heartland from Rattle & Hum
Does anyone have other suggestions? Was it a commercial reason to ignore these songs?

I think it was just a matter of familiarity with the band and the songs. look how quickly they dropped A Sort of Homecoming. I still have to think that had to do more with them being comfortable than anything else. I think dusting off side 2 of the JT might have taken more of a toll on them than expected relearning and reworking them...
Funny, I never considered this until just now, and while it's just my very humble opinion, it makes a little bit of sense... no?

I think they settled early on with these 25 songs for the entire tour.

They need some strong hits to open the show, and they soon dropped ASOH. They were not satisfied with the encore and they add Mysterious Ways and Vertigo. That is the variation for this tour. Do not expect more. U2 plays it safe.
