But here's the kicker: The singer (and lead songwriter as far as I can tell) is none other than Martin Johnson, of early 2000's pop-punk band Boys Like Girls (of whom some of you may be familiar ) - but this band sounds NOTHING like that old band of his, and his vocals in this new band basically sound like THAT Martin Johnson's cool dad from the 80s who had a really kick ass voice or something. His voice has matured into something pretty great. He's also written songs for a ton of notable pop artists like Taylor Swift - but don't worry, this isn't like that sort of thing at all.
They've only released one single so far, called "The Outfield". You can check it out on Spotify, or watch their recently released video here:
I thought it'd be a good time to make this post today, since if you like what you hear, they FINALLY have a new song coming out tomorrow called "Once in a Lifetime" (which I assume will be available everywhere). You can find a tease of THAT song here:
Furthermore, you can find older performances of the band (before they were picked up by Mayer and the groundswell began) here:
There's a ton of other videos of them on YouTube now (mostly amateur stuff) if you want to go looking for it.
This is probably the most excited I've been about a new band in a long time. They're sort of a super group (full of notable studio musicians who have worked with a ton of artists), they have a sound that's EXACTLY what I tend to look for in music (80s, rock, great lyrics, great vocals, great guitar playing, catchy, etc.), and it seems like they're JUST getting started.
