1. Picked up War On Drugs' new album "A Deeper Understanding" the other day and cannot stop playing it.

Though I like SOE a lot, I can't help but wish that they ditched the pop dreams and made music similar to this War On Drugs' album. The music is highly atmospheric, great guitar solos, great beds of music, removed from the verse-chorus-bridge-chorus format, and feels like a unified body of work.

I highly highly recommend this album to anybody who hasn't heard it yet -- whole thing is so good, but Pain, Thinking Of A Place, and Strangest Thing are the key tracks in my opinion

For those who have heard it, any thoughts?
  2. Not quite as thoroughly great as Lost in the Dream to me, but JUST behind it. I do like Holding On and In Chains more than the rest, I'd say.

But "Under the Pressure" always feels like their magnum opus to me.

    Agreed.

But, a fantastic album, seriously fantastic. I only discovered this band pretty recently and I really like them. I will say that when their stuff gets dangerously close to Bruce-ish, I lose interest, but their more atmospheric/ethereal sounding stuff is seriously great.
  4. the new album is really top, but the lone before is/was fantastic, imo
