1. Today, February 25th, 2019 we celebrate not only the 1998 Popmart Brisbane occasion 21 years ago
(the one that turned out to be a Rock show after all ), but also the 2500th bootleg added to the site*

Thanks to all my colleagues, predecessors and uploaders for their work on the database in the last 12 years

And even more THANKS to all the tapers out there, without whom this database would have been as empty as eh...a desert sky

So here you can find this 2500th bootleg: 1998-02-25 - Brisbane, Australia

It's a copy of the original DAT recording made by Michael Dann. A decent 3,5 star audience recording with
moderate clapping and occasionally loud/semi-loud whistlers and screamers. But it's a very enjoyable gig...even
though it was far from being sold-out. available in both FLAC and MP3.

I identified three different transfers of this source. The main one being this DAT clone from the master.
A second one is known as "A Hot Night In Brisbane". A CD-R bootleg that was sold at the time in Australia
( @EthanD will recall!) and seems to be somewhat remastered. Unfortunately the files of this bootleg that
circulate have flacs that cannot be decoded properly ("flac fingerprint cannot be checked since it was unset
in the streaminfo block." ), so I don't think it's a good idea to share them...

A third "unidentified" source (mp3 only) has been in our database for long, but it doesn't belong to the other
two. But although it is different sounding, it is still the same recording by Michael Dann.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

In the coming month(s), I hope to finish updating the entire Joshua Tree Tour (1987) section.

    Stay tuned...

    Cheers
  2. Thankyou for all the effort of tapers. I admire your putting in the finances,
time and effort .. Thankyou to U2start for the awesome database and site. Basically thanks to anyone involved. What a figure!
  3. I think this is a good time to say pretty much exactly the same as mofothethird in thanking everyone involved with all the recordings on here and the site itself for providing an easy place to find them all. Brilliant work by everyone involved.
  4. A bootleg is a private recording that has been made (usually secretly, typically out of the audience of a live appearance), and sold without permission!

I don't agree. Selling - or making a profit as such - is not necessarily part of the definition. And such a broad definition of "bootleg" is not without precedent:

A bootleg recording is an audio or video recording of a performance that was not officially released by the artist or under other legal authority. Recordings may be copied and traded among fans of the artist without financial exchange, but some bootleggers have sold recordings for profit […]

At U2start we use the term "bootleg" for all those concert recordings that are not officially released and we do not make profit...(just to be sure )

    Cheers

PS: @one8ung : I understand that you "prefer to call those recordings that are sold "bootlegs" and do not use that term for recordings that have been made of live material which are traded but not sold." - That's OK. At U2Start we have a different preference
  6. What a landmark! Congrats and thanks everyone
  7. Thanks everyone!
Thank you for all the effort of tapers.
But I'm still waiting for this show:
2006-03-01 - Buenos Aires, Argentina - River Plate Stadium
  8. Man, I haven’t downloaded a fresh boot in ages. I think it might be time to cycle through the tours again!! Great work, all!
