Apologies if there is already a thread for this or if it’s better to go into the Songs of Surrender general discussion thread but what are the songs would you have liked to have made the album that didn’t?
For me I’d have been interested to hear So Cruel, Tryin’ To Throw Your Arms Around The World, Kite In A Little While, Moment of Surrender and Breathe.
I am holding out hope that some discarded SOS songs could make their way onto a 10-track 2023 fan club gift...didn't Edge say somewhere that they (he) looked at 50-or-so songs?
Also, on the SOS special with Bill Flanagan on U2 X-Radio, he mentioned Running to Standstill, Moment of Surrender, and Angel of Harlem as songs that didn't make the cut.
My hopes would be
1. Moment of Surrender
2. Breathe
3. In a Little While
4. Angel of Harlem
5. Mysterious Ways (didn't they try this during i+e rehearsals?)
6. Please (one can dream...)
7. When I Look at the World
8. Original of the Species
9. One Tree Hill
10. Landlady
No SOS songs from NLOTH still pains me...but the ache is softened by the presence of the Little Things
I'm not interested in any more ruined songs... so hopefully we won't hear more songs like this an in next few years we will get finally new album. 7 years between albums is too long.
They have to release the songs they are playing at the GREAT documentary A Sort of Homecoming with David Letterman. It's LIVE and with a small audience with a great atmosphere. Playing with some guests IRISH musicians.
I have always felt Numb would make for an awesome reinterpretation. I picture it acoustic with Bono singing the “Don’ts” and Edge playing Fat Lady. They can take turns even.
Judging by the Tiny Desk concert, In a Little While was another that didn’t make the cut. Are there any songs in the Letterman special that aren’t on the album besides 40 Foot Man?
