"Very different because there is no other band like U2. I would like it to be an album with the energy from Achtung Baby and the sounds from POP—that’s definitely my direction in their music."
Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?
Cześć, nazywam się Marcin, jestem U2holikiem 😊
“I’m just a little guy, you make me feel big.”
After several years of working in television (unfortunately not at ZOO TV), it was time for a change. I left behind a lot of interesting stories, people, and all that TV crap. Now I work in the transport sector, a head of bananas, but not Pablo Escobar’s 😉
How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?
It was 1996, my older brother had bought a cassette of The Joshua Tree. I heard “With Or Without You” for the first time… I rewound the cassette over and over again
. My older brother had had enough; he claimed I was a psychopath for U2.Did you ever have a special U2 experience like a live concert? Can you tell us something about it?
In 1997, my mum took me to a U2 concert in Warsaw. It was something amazing, but let’s remember that at that time in Poland, the opening of McDonald’s could be compared to landing on Mars 😉. The concert was sponsored by ‘EB’ beer, which ran out literally after a while, and to buy it, you had to stand in two queues… one for a beer token and the other for a beer that was gone
. For every fan from Poland, probably the biggest event is the “Polish Flag” in Chorzów 2005 & 2009.In your opinion, what has been U2’s defining moment and why?
A moment in which they risked everything and created something completely new, leaving the competition light years behind with Achtung Baby and POP. For me, it was their highest peak, typical rockers 😉
In a house fire, which one of your U2 items would you save?
Framed Wide Awake In Europe RSD 2010 EP.
If you could only hear one more U2 song for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
Nothing has changed here… “With or Without You” again and again 😊.
Does anyone in your family or one of your friends like U2? If so, did they introduce you to U2, or did you “convert” them?
My mum and brothers like U2; however, they prefer The Rolling Stones and Guns N’ Roses more. My wife used to like U2 a lot, but thanks to me, she’s had enough of them
.What are your expectations for U2’s next album? Do you think it will be their last?
I would like it to be an album with the energy from Achtung Baby and the sounds from POP—that’s definitely my direction in their music. Knowing U2’s logic, this could be their last album, and in the following years, we will get some compilations.
How different is U2 compared to other artists that you like?
Very different because there is no other band like U2. I like Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, The Black Keys, Guns N’ Roses, and lately I often listen to INXS and Spanish Gold. As you can easily see, they are completely different sounds. I’m also a fan of soundtracks—Ennio Morricone, John Williams, Thomas Newman, Hans Zimmer, Clint Mansell, and David Holmes.
What are your hobbies and interests away from U2, musical or otherwise?
My biggest hobbies are vinyl records, swimming/diving, and pizza
.
