1. If anybody has this, now would be a good time to release it

I know it's the holy grail, but I'm currently reliving the experience of recording this concert off the radio with two tape recorders so I could switch tapes without loss of audio. 35 years ago...
What a joy seeing the full video would be...

Dream on - and all the best to all of you!
  2. Nobody has this!
But there are other holy grails...
  3. I did that for RDS Dublin 1993 - 2 tape recorders, first part was recorded in MW the 2nd in FM.Didn’t record the New Years Night show but remember distinctly listening to it

RTÉ must hold the master recording of it,as didn’t it go from their New Years Eve show to the Point for like the first 10 minutes or so?
  4. Be grateful for what you've got or what you get. There will always be material that doesn't go into common circulation, whether that is U2 or anyone else. Keep looking for anything you want but no one is obliged to share anything contrary to widespread belief.
  5. Before this goes in the wrong direction - nobody is obliged to share anything and I'm grateful for all the great recordings I got to listen to in the last 40 years....
    Thanks to all the tapers!

I was just reminiscing about my personal experience with that recording and was watching the couple of minutes available on youtube. That lead to me dreaming about maybe one day seeing the whole thing live, if it even exists...

    Yes

  7. I have never seen that RTE clip before. The quality looks delightful.

I assume the full gig exists on film as it was pulled quite late from the TV schedules due to not enough TV stations showing it as it's a hard slot to secure and is usually done months in advance, however I don't think Bono is a big fan of the Gig as he mentioned in interviews that it just didn't happen that night for them and the "roof didn't come off" liked they wanted so who knows if it will ever see the light of day .

I had the same tape recorder model twice, borrowed one from my girlfriend (now wife) who had the same. Treated my original tapes as a master and only listened to copies I made from that
I must have listened to that recording literally hundreds of times.

My recording had the long intro, where the MC lists all the countries tuned in ... that is missing from all the my boots I have collected over the years...

Bono not taking a liking to that performance is akin to Robert Plant not liking Led Zeppelins performance at Live Aid,as he refuses to acknowledge it.Only in this case,he can’t blame Phil Collins.I think amongst the hardcore,New Years at the Point is one of their seminal gigs.Maybe that’s why the band gave permission to Propaganda to print cassette covers as they knew it would be recorded off the radio and didn’t want to do anything else with that show.Just a thought
  11. I'm Hoping The Dec 31,1989 Audio Gets Officially Re- Released Again As Part Of The Rattle And Hum 40th Anniversery Set In 2028 !.........BUT WHO KNOWS???
  12. Nice to see/hear that extended intro. Like many I played the hell out of this bootleg. It had a certain raw power.
