1. I dunno, what do you guys think?

This is the 3rd time Streets has been played out of tour.

I don't think Cannes deserved Streets. The rooftop for the video deserved Streets. Super Bowl 2002 deserved Streets, without a doubt, but... Cannes???

No songs to build up the mood & anticipation before hand. NO RED LIGHTS (yes even Vertigo had them even though the flags were bigger). No blinding floodlights, not even at "love, love, love." No crowd singing along every word, overpowering Bono during "I wanna RUN" and the second "BURNING down love" of each chorus. The deafening applause didn't last for at least 60-90 seconds. Edge didn't even use a Strat?!?

I'm not saying it even sounded bad... but it still wasn't Streets to me.

I wouldn't flash my privates outside of the bedroom; it would feel very out of place and you wouldn't fully appreciate 'em unless you were somebody VERY close to me. I don't think U2 should flash Streets outside of a U2 concert.

    Maybe it's just me.

    totally agree!!!
  3. I like it, despite of the timing and location. I'd rather see them pull out Streets than Beautiful Day again.

Thanks for that information, just what we wanted to hear.

But yeah I get what you're saying - why not try something new like Window In The Skies? Oh well, it was a fantastic show anyway.
  5. Streets was perfect for the setting.......no-one notice a Red Carpet as opposed to the normal red backdrop?
  6. Street has to have a song leading into it. Running toSnd Still on ZooTV was awesome, as was Bad and All I Want Is You but the best ive heard to date has been MLK from the superbowl. why they havent used it again is a mystery
  7. Well, I really liked it.
I thought the same as you when I heard the riff, but then I thought "Well, it's a great song, that's a great Festival, 60th Birthday, why not celebrating it with one of U2's best songs?"
I think it was a fantastic election, but I'd had drop out Vertigo. Not only because Bono's voice (horrible by the way). It has been played too much on the last 3 years...

OMG I didn't notice!! Brilliant comment!!!
  8. For me it's not a negative fact to play Streets or any other song out of the usual set in which it's played. For this particular occasion all seemed right: the absence of the lights, the different version of the song (more like the album version than the live one), even the fact that the audience was "colder" than usually. It was the right performance according to the occasion, for me.
I only say that maybe Vertigo should have been substituted by a less energic song, always according to the situation. I'd have preferred Window In The Skies (as the second song, after Streets) or another song with a similar atmosphere.

    Anyway I liked the performance!

  9. Well, I've lightened up a tad since my original reaction, and it doesn't horrify me the way it did at first.

Apparently, Bono's perfectly okay with flashing his privates.

Have you heard the story of how he was in a restaurant being interviewed several years ago and he wound up being so bored he took off all his clothes before continuing the conversation?
  10. Yeah because the interviewer was so boring and not really lively that to lighten him up, Bono took off all his clothes and sat naked. Apparently, the interviewer didn't blink an eyelid, but I'm sure the diners at that restaraunt sure did.

Good to see you changed your original reaction.

Funny you mention that, because that's how most of U2's material tends to work on me. They're good at taking my original reaction and flipping it on its head, consistently. Perhaps that's why they're my favorite band.

ATYCLB as an example. I bought it the day it came out, and thought the album was terrible, softie, adult contemporary garbage. Many listens later, it gradually grew on me, until now I crave all of it. Interestingly enough, it has never even grown old since then.
