    i don't think his voice was damaged only because of the cigarettes..he brought his voice to the limits..but anyway it's still wonderful no matter what

    In U2byU2 he says that he stopped about 1999 or 2000 (after POPMart tour, when he had the most serious problems).
    He even thought he had a cancer, so he stopped smoking. And his voice hasn't reached its old glorious. (However it's better than in PoPMart)...
  12. His voice isn't that bad, it has changed a little bit and older songs like WOWY or ISHFWILF sound nowadays slightly different due to his voice problems.
    However I have to say that if he had cared more about his voice (not smoked, not screamed...), his voice would be much better today.
