1. Im just curious as to who decides which songs make it on to the albums. Is it the band's decission or the producer's? We have already discussed that Mercy should have been added to HTDAAB and I believe that 'Always' should have made it on to ATYCLB. So why didn't they? it wouldn't have done the albums any harm, and they are not restricted to how many songs they can include on an album are they?
  2. I know one story about The Joshua Tree. A woman (I forgot her name, please help me) made the playlist for that album. She was told that the album should begin with Streets and end with Mothers Of The Dissapeared, She made the playlist and the band liked it so much that they didn't change anything.
Don't know about he other albums..
  3. Kirsty MacColl

Up to 18 songs is possible, if each song is limited to 3-4 minutes. So..why not?

Well, it has to be a market for b-sides too of course. Otherwise not much singles wouldn't be sold.
  9. Because quantity does not equal quality. When you're making an album, if one song (no matter how good on its own) is out of place, or is treading on the territory of another song, it disrupts the whole thing. Its very difficult to find and build a common thread for every song on an album but for every song to be individual.

Like a book for example. It doesn't matter how many pages there are, it matters what's on the pages.

Always has the same feel as Beautiful Day except the latter is superior so why would it be on the album. And Mercy is great, fantastic and all, but I don't understand ANYONE who says that song is finished. Plus it didn't have the feel for HTDAAB. Achtung Baby for example, is a very complete album; every song is its own thing, its own feel, adds its own piece to the album without wasting any space or time but at the same time theres a unity to it.

Kudos to the band for understanding that more does not mean better.
  10. Alway wouldn't have any sense on ATYCLB since Beautiful Day came out of Always.
