    Hello Ratti,
nice question, I don't really know any of the reactions.... I believe that most of the people, at least in my country don't really know what the songs mean or stand for!!
    1) very few speak the language.
    2) some understand the language but really don't care or don't pay enough attention to what the song is about or stands for.

at least this is what I have seen... I've spoken to random friends or whoever I might be speaking to and my die-hard passion for U2 pops up, and they ask me why?? or they would say, hey I really enjoy this song or that song!!! and if they're willing to listen for 5 minutes I usually tell them about the true meaning of the song.... most of the times they look terrified!! blown away!! saying things like: OH DEAR GOD!! I never thought it was this or that, now it all makes sense to me!!

well, I hope this gives you an idea... songs that usually pop up are Walk On, Vertigo, The Fly, Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Years Day, Streets, Stuck in a Moment, etc...

    cheers mate!!
  3. hii girl from the country iam from too

i think we are just allowed to speak english so....

i never saw people getting out of control when a u2 song is played but i as well never saw people saying or slt

but when i hear a u2 song in the radio i want it to be quiet so that i can listen to it even though i have heard the song x times

i have never heard streets in the german radio yet ! did you?
  4. Most folks listen to music because it sounds nice...Others, the ones who really care for music and don't listen that often to the usual hits and dance-shit, really care about the lyrics and also try to understand them. Most of us here do, like we can see in the Bootleg Lyrics Topic(or whatever it is called.. ).
  5. Most people I know scoff at me or roll their eyes when I mention I like U2's political songs, like Sunday Bloody Sunday or Please. They enjoy the popular songs to listen to, i.e. Beautiful Day, but as far as the meanings go, they really don't care. As long as it sounds melodic to them or they can dance to it, the lyrics and their political meanings don't matter to them. It's quite sad. Not that U2 has the answers to everything--and U2 know that, and they, especially Bono, make a point of syaing that they don't have the answers. That's what I think casual listeners of the band should really take away from listening to their political songs--that they're not trying to say they have the answers. they're just making us aware of the problems.

For actual reactions at concerts, here's a link to the Vertigo Tour website to the gig when the band debuted Sunday Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland: http://www.u2-vertigo-tour.com/show1059.html.
  6. I think Ratti rather refers to reactions in terms of 'sunday bloody sunday is a song PRO the ira' ... wasn't it that some ppl used to claim it's a song that wants ppl to actually support the IRA...or something like that ....hence bono used to state that "this song is not a rebel song"....so, if anyone has got more into in such terms, that would be highly interesting imo.
