1. (Hope this is allowed in here ? If not: sorry!)

Like posted in another forum, maybe someone here can help ?

I'm planning to record some of my shows where I have seated tickets. I'm not sure tho which cam to buy (I have a Sony DCR-TRV19E from 2001, 10 opt. zoom "only" so I would buy a new one if my calculations allow it), what other things to care about equipment-wise and stuff like that.

Maybe some experienced taper is willed to share some insightful information, so to speak .

    -->
    Camcorder:
For me some DV quality is perfect, so are MiniDVs - I don't need a HD camcorder.
I need something tiny (I'm afraid to be seen by security !) , that produces a decent image quality in a stadium, also when I am rather far away from the stage.
Also, I read that it's better to use external microphones in order to catch a good audio. I'm not too focused on this matter as I'm quite sure that there'll be some audio bootlegs of my shows which then could be mixed with video material by some talented soul.
I don't want to pay more than 400 Euros for it - the cheaper the better!!
I'd go for a Sony DCR-HC51 (mainly because of money matters) so far. Anyone made experiences ?
Also info about tripods / monopods is welcome, but then most importantly: how do I bring it into in the stadium, and how do I make sure to not being seen by security ?

How to bring the cam into the stadium:
Do you have any recommendations how to best smuggle a camcorder in ? Until yesterday my plan was to pretend I am pregnant and would have the camcorder in a kinda pillow under my T-shirt to make it look like I'm expecting a baby. But someone told me that security usually also touches your belly so I don't know.
There's also the idea of putting it next to your underwear, but I'm not sure if this really works although the camcorder would be small.
As yet I am planning to get a rucksack with me, and to make a kinda second floor under which I hide the cam. To disguise I would also get a slight jacket, a digicam (which should be allowed nonetheless) and a bottle of water to distract the security at the gates.
    ...Any ideas or recommendations ?

Last but not least: are there people here that are already certain they will film / record audio from the shows ? If so, which ?
I'm planning to record Paris I, Berlin, Göteborg I, (Gelsenkirchen), and Wembley II.
  2. No love here ?

Well, after some research throughout the day, I THINK this is my favourite one:

    ANY THOUGHTS ? Recommendations ??
  3. I was going to reply to your post, because I requested something similar at U2torrents.com about one year ago (last year I went to Bruce Springsteen and The Police concerts, and I wanted to reecord them, etc)... But I suddenly forgot. Sorry

I was asking for audio recording mostly, but that microphones are valid to videocams too I think.

    Good luck anyway
  4. thanks for the effort Sergio.

I think I'll indeed go for my "favourited" one.
I checked some outdoor bootleg DVDs from the last tour and am rather optimistic.
  5. Bump, for user Jasvan
  6. Seriously good recordings you ended up with. Loved Berlin (maybe a little too rearward but you did great). Gelsenkirchen was excellent. Lovely seats. Massive compliments and thanks. From your post above to what you have torrented has been super. Thank you
  7. Hi

just a small tip for any recordings.....

before entering the stadium make sure you have set the camera up properly....switch it on outside..and select the camera`s manual focus...zoom to the full focal length(parked car, tree etc), and use the manual control to put it in focus....zoom back out....the focus will now be fixed at the furthest focal distance....and also the shortest!....this means that you camera will not go out of focus because of the lighting...(focus in auto is a pig at gigs)....
so set the camera to manual focus before you record, you will find that the end recording is much better as the camera will not be varied in trying to focus lighting...its a method i use when recording live bands and the results are always good...so much footage on youtube with cams going out of focus because of auto settings...camera`s cannot cope with light movement very well.

look at the canon h/d cams....they are pretty cheap and offer great quality...3chip cams reproduce better colours....also having worked with 8mm/hi8/dv/ i wouldnt go back to tape based cams...so much easier at the end of the day to transfer the footage via usb as opposed to capturing it to pc (real time capture is a pain!)...also remember you`ll need something like vegas8/9 to edit the format that h/d cams record to...avchd is a pig to edit and requires a decent pc...
