    In most cases the result will be far from ideal, though.

    In my case, unfortunately, this conversion is necessary because my dvd-player doesn't play the current Divx version.

    Can I use these programs also to convert the film Linear to DVD? (is that necessary by the way?)

    Nero isnt free is it (Well they have a very basic free version but misses the important features)
