The first U2 gig I went too in 1997 (PopMart) - I went alone. As it turned out, that time was the best...I met a girl with whom I stayed for a couple of years in a relationship....
I enjoy travel very much, and the best trips happened when I went alone. Don't know why - the "freedom factor" is crucial, I guess.
And, of course(someone has said it already), when you're going to the rock concert of any band in the world, there are "soulmates" of yours all over the place, so it's not difficult to get some (good)company...
