  3. Happy 30th anniversary to U2's first Wembley Zooropa show.

  4. I’ll start by saying I love this album and it’s always been in my u2 top 5 so not trying to be controversial or anything with my question. Is zooropa a weak live album? I think it might be one of their weakest albums live in comparison to the studio version. I don’t necessarily dislike the songs live but because they’re so inferior to the studio versions I feel like I want more from them. I prefer dirty day live because edge’s solo mainly and the wanderer at the Johnny cash tribute night because Bono is the lead singer on that. The rest are all weaker I feel. Just wanted to know people’s thoughts.
  5. It’s definitely got an ambient feel that’s great for sitting back and listening to on a comfortable couch - which probably is the opposite what a live (U2) experience usually brings.
  6. It is a great live album. Dirty Day and Stay (full band) are the highlights, Lemon and Daddy’s Gonna Pay worked far better than one would think, Numb was a very good transitional piece (I would have loved to hear the Fat Lady vocals though), Zooropa was very good on 360…

    My opinion: Daddys gonna pay was live better than album version. Stay was/is perfectly fine live and studio. Dirty Day was better live in 93. Zooropa was ok at 360, but not better than album.

    Numb, Babyface and Lemon didn't sound good live in my opinion. I have the feeling that Some Days could work live and First time could work in smaller veneus.
  8. Zooropa = studio: sublime v live: nah

    Babyface = studio: meh v live: meh

    Numb = studio:like v live: also like

    Lemon = studio: great v live: not bad

    Stay = studio: one of their best v live: still great but prefer the studio

    Daddy's = studio: great v live: great

    Some Days = studio: interesting v live: we'll never know

    The First Time = studio: hmmm had potential but leaves you wanting more v live: just not the same

    Dirty Day = studio: great v live: great

    The Wanderer = studio: good v live: good

    Because some of the songs are more down-tempo and layered, not all the tracks have translated well in the live setting. At the time the band got lost in coming up with fast experimental music pieces, it was very much a studio project.

    Earlier attempts during ZOO TV showed what worked and didn't when it came to putting the songs in the set. Some songs worked better like Dirty Day that was more guitar heavy and the band acoustic version of Stay. DGPFYCC worked too, The title track became a great live tune on the 360 tour, earlier attempts to do it on ZOO TV were a struggle as was Babyface. Numb was a risk as it's a monotone tune but became a highlight of the set with video overload, etc. Lemon had to rely on a fair amount of playback parts but worked as encore piece.

    The album itself is still a favourite that produced some great remix versions of the songs. It was of it's time, but still sounds fresh.
  10. Listening to it right now like it was a EP.

    1) Babyface
    2) Stay
    3) Daddys gonna pay for your crashed car
    4) some days are better than others
    5) Dirty Day
  11. I’d drop Babyface for Lemon. I’m also really fond of The First Time because of the lyrics and what they mean in the context of faith. “He gave me the keys to his kingdom coming…but I threw away the key” is such a tortured and heavy verse. I look back on the 90s trilogy being the peak of Bono’s lyricism. He still mines the occasional diamond but there’s been too many clunkers since then.
