The band was clearly elated to be back in Chicago. For this first night, the band was visibly determined to put all of their energy into the show. Aside from a drum fix mid Joshua tree and a slight timing issue on In God's Country, the show was flawless and very upbeat. I felt that the momentum of the show was off after Elevation: they had incredible momentum and then it shifted too quickly (an issue resolved in later shows with the addition of Vertigo). One of my favorite moments was Bono's joyful reaction to their performance of Red Hill... they nailed it.

Chicago shows and U2 can be incredible and this show lived up to that connection. The crowd and band were in full flight and it was electric.
A band taking command of a stadium crowd of creating a memorable night.

The band considered releasing The Joshua Tree as a double-album that would have included B-sides. Bono was the most vocal proponent of the idea, whereas The Edge argued for the 11-track version that was ultimately released.
