1. Hey.

The bass line in 40 dominates the song and i'm sure Adam can play it, but why does Edge take over the bass when this song is performed live? Adam should play it and take the credit, he has been playing the bass for a long time.

Also, why is it called 40? On one bootleg Bono says something like "this song took 10 minutes to write, 10 minutes to record, 10 minutes to mix and 10 minutes to play back- but that has nothing to do with why it's called 40" Why is it called 40?

and are there any other songs except red light that do not have their song name mentioned in the song? im sure there's quite a few.

    thanks
  2. It's from Psalm 40, it's basically copied from that Psalm

O yeh it is, never knew that. I guess that's why it took little to no time to come up with it
  4. Just to say that exactly when I opened the page of this topic on my player started 40!

But it's one of the best, according to me. At least for the music and the atmosphere... it makes you fly towards the sky...
  6. They should have a sing-a-long to this in church. I read somewhere that singing some u2 songs in church is now acceptable and they do it.

Perhaps more people will go to church that would be quite cool

Well, Edge wrote it, and he played it on the record because Adam was not on the studio when they recorded. So I think it's quite good to Edge to play it. Plues, it's a great change for Adam, I think he likes playing guitar on 40.

The first one I can think of is Bad.

"There's nothing to do with why it is called 40..."
As said here, it stands for the Psalm 40 of the Bible... And as said here, it's not very original...

Well, every song title on The Unforgettable Fire album is not mentioned in the songs (except Pride).

I Threw a Brick Through a Window, Scarlet, Drowning Man, Exit, Mothers.., God Part II, Mofo and a lot of b-sides too of course.

  11. original of the species.
    there is loads more.
