1. Hey guys, just though that if we discuss best versions of such songs as Streets and Please, so why not discuss New Year's Day? I think it's really a great song!

I think that the best version is Dortmund 1984-11-21 - it was performed in fast tempo (that's one of the main reasons why I like UF tour versions of Day), and all the band members did their best, and to crown it all, it's in very good quality!

The 2nd best version for me would be ZooTV Sydney - though it's somewhat slow-tempoed, the transition from Until the End of the World is really cool, and so is the performance.

I think that Unforgettable Fire tour was really the "star" moment for New Year's Day, fast tempo + excellent vocals + cool guitar, bass and drums = ultimate combination!
ZooTV performances were also good, but not quite as good as UF!

What's the best New Year's Day for you?
  2. Red Rocks 1983-06-05. No question about it for me.
  3. By they way, sorry forgot to mention in the previous post, does anybody of you know good-quality fast-tempo New Year's Days, aside for Dortmund, Chicago, Daly City and Montreal (all UF tour)? Or maybe even outside of UF tour?
  4. Drewhiggins, NYD in Red Rocks 1983-06-05 is the same NYD as on Under a Blood Red Sky?

If yes, then I agree this version is also quite good!

  5. Sarajevo 1997 for me. So emotional version with Bonos "semi-hoarse" voice. The keyboard was very powerful in the PopMart Tour too.

I LOVE the version of London 1982-12-06, one of te first ones...
In fact, this is my favourite, I think (mainly because it is the only version I know with the "Ohh maybe the time is right...etc" part!!!).
  7. I would say my favorites performances of New Year's Day would be:
    1. PopMart Santiago
    2. Live at The Point Depot
    3. Red Rocks
    4. Syracuse
    5. PopMart in Sarajevo
    6. PopMart in Mexico City, The Hasta La Vista Baby Ablum
and many, many more, I think in my opinion that's there best song

The New Year's Day from Red Rocks is on the Under a Blood Red Sky video, but not on the CD (it's from a TV broadcast in Germany).

And i agree Red Rocks is good, and i like also the one from Dortmund 1984 and Mexico 1997
  9. New Year's day is an awesome song... I got hooked to it when I listened to the Slane version ( with that flag, really cool)
But my favourite is ZooTV Sydney! The transition from Until The End Of The World...
  10. Hello my friends around the world..

I would say that my favourite version of New Year´s day would be the popmart in Mexico city. It´s awesome to see all the lights following the rythms of larry´s drums, and the transition from Until the end of the world is great too..

I also like Red rocks version
  11. Bourges 3/4/1983
  12. didnt like the Zoo Sydney version. Edges solo is a bit mis-timed. doesnt sound right. Popmart Mexico is pure class 'and say its true its true, we can be one'. the crowd kicks ass at that part
